Winter wheels and tyres just fitted on my old dump-runner.

Anyone else fitted them yet?

Nahh. 20+ degrees centigrade here this weekend.
gr J;)

Interesting, that. Temperature is not the only parameter, but I'm glad that me fitting winters has guaranteed an Indian summer for others! Always happens.

On Gozo, where I've lived for many years, the rainy season has started, and for a few weeks the roads are like ice, even though the temperature is in the mid 20's. The reason is all the rubber and diesel exhaust that has coated the tarmac over the hot dry summer. Add water to that and you have real slippery conditions. Winter tyres are the way to go.

True.

Gozo: Shorts, tee shirt, flip flops.
Wales: Wellies, jumpers, jeans, jacket, raincoat, hat, gloves, scarf, umbrella, etc.
Big laundry one way, small laundry other way!

Back to thread.
Ask around, and you'll get plenty of drivers who won't use winter tyres because they think they're for wimps. I'm a wimp then - because I'm solid sold on their benefits, and wouldn't go through the winter without them.

We have mud and snow tyres all the time. Here in N Scotland they are useful. Don't do many long runs so wear not a great problem.

I also ran winter wheels and Vredestein tyres - was amazing where the Panda would go with them, skipping by fashion 4x4s stuck in the snow!
Sadly, we now have too many kids to fit in the car, so it's been replaced by a Galaxy, and hence I'm looking to sell the wheels and tyres if anyone is interested. Located near to Bristol.

My winters are Vredestein too.
One winter, there was a Jag X-type outside, struggling to pass my house. We're halfway up a slight hill. He couldn't get enough grip, kept dropping back down and taking another run at it. As we're in a cul-de-sac, he could just have left it here and walked, 100 yds at most.
While he was faffing about, I drove out, around him and went off on an errand. Half an hour later I returned, he was still struggling, so I drove up the hill past him, and back onto my drive. 2wd with winters a winner over 4wd on summers.

Not yet, but soon. Deciding what to get for her Panda, mine are in the shed.

Just ordered a set of Uniroyal winters for about that.

I have Avon Ice Touring ST on my Alfa, very impressed with them, shame they appear to be discontinued.

I'm not keen on directional winter tyres, as a rule :(

Just discovered that Michelin Alpins seem to also be discontinued. Less and less choice in 13 inch tyres.
