Looks like the speed sensor that is unused if you have ABS

Its usually clipped on the other side of the engine bay. Plastic clip on the top of the gearbox and a long length dangling down.

Thank you for your response ... I is such a relief... I had spent hours searching for a socket for the sensor ..my biggest fear was to pull it all apart again.. it makes sense now I just assumed something like that would be blanked off..CHEERS KOALAR..
