Unhappy Electric windows stuck down fast!

2011 Panda Dynamic Eco 1.2 Euro 5..

Have followed some other posts re: failed elec. windows, how to remove door card etc. but am still stuck...

Basically, I can't remove the window regulator as the window is properly stuck in the down position and there isn't room to a) Get the clip off the bottom of the window or b) remove the regulator gubbins (motor, rail and cord).

I've revealed the inside of the door panel and unscrewed the motor and regulator rail. But the window just won't budge, even with much tugging.

There was a bit of a bang and clunk when it went and I suspect that the wire has either snapped or a pulley wheel has broken; there's no wire present behind the strut/guide along which the window would normally glide.

There really isn't much room in the door and the panel edges are quite sharp. I can JUST get my fingers around the bottom of the window but suspect I really want to get the clip off.. which is impossible as it is right at the bottom, inside the door.

Bit of a catch-22 really. Any ideas?

PS. I'm no mechanic!

Re: Electric windows stuck down fast!

if it came in to me
i would put my leather gloves on
goggles on
and try hard to pull the window up in its slides after checking motor and possibly cutting the motor cable with some side snips
basically you have nothing to lose because it either will or it wont
if it wont then its either shatter the glass or do major surgery on the door skin
im sure after a nice pot of tea and a new day you can surmount

Re: Electric windows stuck down fast!

Thanks. Yes, cutting the cable did cross my mind.

Do you mean pulling it up from the top when you say in its slides -there is an inch or so protruding.

I was originally hoping to get the regulator out to inspect -incase the wire had simply slipped off the pulley but I think I'll have to sacrifice it.

The cord parts from the motor I can get to / feel aren't bare cable but a rubber seath, do you think cutting it here will have the same effect as cutting the bare cable further down where I can't access?

Re: Electric windows stuck down fast!

Replying to own thread..

Good advice S & B; I cut the (bottom) cable, eased the window up and had space to get the regulator out.

The plastic fitting is still attached to the bottom of the window with the cut wire dangling from it. Getting this off will be my next challenge.

I suspect that there was actually nothing wrong with the regulator but that the top wire had pinged off the plastic slider part and wound all the way onto the reel to the end stopper, thus causing the motor to cut-off.

I could see, looking down the window slit from above, that the wire was absent from the top pulley.

Still, I couldn't see any other way of remedying the situation -especially as I can't work out how the white plastic window clip comes off.

I have my eye on a replacement from a car parts shop which seems reasonable at 86 inc. but is made by PMM (Professional Motor Mechanic) brand. I wonder if this will function exactly the same as the original one (which does look more meaty).

I'm waiting on a regulator clip to replace my broken one. Here's a picture which might give you some hints!

Where are you getting it from? I need a couple and my usual supplier doesn't stock them any more.
Last pair I got sent (eBay) were different so I sent them back.

Re: Electric windows stuck down fast!

eBay was the only place I found the plastic unit without the whole mechanism. Unfortunately it's not even shipping from within the UK

Re: Electric windows stuck down fast!

The clip I ordered arrived today and didn't fit. Turns out they don't do them on ebay at all
