Hi all,
Recently bought an 09 Panda 100HP. Absolutely love it and a bit of a power increase from my old 126.

Have a small list of things to work through on the Panda (Fog lights have rusted/de-chromed, the front wipers return to rest 2 inches higher than they're supposed to).

Today's job though was trawling eBay for an air intake. Seems the previous owner removed the initial air feed for whatever reason. eBay not being much help though. Can anyone point me in the right direction / give me some advice on what I need to be searching for? (searching for panda air ducts / air feeds / air intake - not showing the exact one I'm looking for)

Red square : there has been a botch job at one point where the small pipe has disconnected and the previous owner has pasted it together. Which must've become brittle over time and has now come loose.

ebay is probably your best bet. email a breaker, you may have to buy the whole airbox though, unless you find a local one were you can get the bits yourself.

alternatively, you can make up an intake duct yourself. this gives you a slightly throughtier sound and keeps the cold air intake advantages:

same goes for the bodged up pipe. you can either buy from a breaker, or make something up. unfortunately, not many second hand bits about and what is about doesnt tend to be cheap :(
 
I'd go for what is called "the Cooperman induction mod" on this forum. I did and (although I'm a granddad) love it .
Not sure if there are partnumbers on the original parts, but I could take a look.

Go for it, the Cooperman induction mode is the way to go, I'm half way through mine, sourcing parts for ebay & ASH (even done the Carbon wrap on the alloy joiners, looks amazeballs).

If you need hoses size etc, I think most of us with 100hp's have done this mode and them if needed.
 
Or you could go the hog, but proceed with caution. This is an arduous task, not the mod itself but getting the front trim off is really fiddly....

Have I noticed a difference with a more direct airflow, not really :)

The OEM air intake is likely to be more than up to the job. The only way to improve performance is with a sports exhaust MANIFOLD and underbody catalyst. Not cheap but it will work and need not be noisy with a sensible system behind it.

Agreed, when I referred to "difference" I was meaning sound tone...no way in hell I'd be expecting more horses :) Maybe some fuel savings? (but I doubt it)

But the mod/mods are cheap'ish, look good & give me an excuse to throw money into a bottomless pit :)

I like to get something tangible for my money. A proper sports exhaust system (engine to tail pipe) will include catalyst but it wont meed the Euro specs. However in UK, as long as the MOT meets the emissions criteria you are good to go. Cars with spots exhausts usually run cleaner modified than when they were standard. Sadly, some idiots remove the catalyst without remapping and smoke the street. Any car sans cat will be dirty, but a car with catalyst removed without retuning will be filthy.

The lasted Euro emissions specs have improved the cold start issues. In cities this is a big problem as cars are often used for short runs. But the actual benefits are really marginal and the downside is an engine that feels clogged up (because it is), fuel consumption is higher and performance is lower. The Fiat Fire engine already heats up quickly so the additional benefits of Euro 4/5 are minimal.

There are only two ways to gain horsepower on a 100hp and that's expensive organic tuning or an engine swap.

And organic/mechanical tuning would also include the exhaust system as first step. After that its cams and stuff at serious cost. Anything significant will need remap to notice any difference.

A cam swap together with air intake and exhaust will maybe liberate an extra 4-5hp for a £1000 plus outlay, the 100hp can't be remapped.

The air intake will release nothing but noise.

The tuned exhaust can have a significant effect but will need a tuning box to in effect remap the ECU. £500 for manifold, plus system, plus tuning box, plus dyno time - your costs will start from around £1000.

This looks like a Lambda shifter which adjusts the O2 readings seen by the ECU to release more power. Generally a fancy exhaust manifold will make the engine run weak' Lambda shifting deals with that. Who knows if this is rubbish but for £80 you might want to try it

If you want proper power buy an Abarth 500. If want even more power from a small car buy a Mini Cooper.

The Fiat 500 100BHP engine can be mapped to make 113bhp. With a free flowing exhaust manifold the gains would be higher. It *should* be possible to do similar things with a Panda 100HP.

This says that Protoxide do an add-on tuning box (such as Power Commander) for the 100HP Panda.

Another way is a low pressure turbo with new ECU. It wont be cheap or easy but a search on FF will show it has been done.

Measure your manifold / air filter intake and start there. ASH have every type of silicone hose and metal pipe you could wish for. The droning noise (especially on gear shifts) will probably drive you mad after a few miles.

:eek:And you know that for a fact because you've done this to your 100HP?

When driving normal, there's almost no noise. Doing 100+ Km/h in third make it sound like it's on steroids.
And yes I have the "Cooperman Induction mod" on my Bellezza Nera. Use search to find all info on measures and availability on eBay.

Every car with a simple tube induction pipe will be noisy.

If you like the boom on every gear shift then great. Personally, unless the standard intake is restrictive (e.g. a Seicento) I don't see the point.

2nd stage, Airbox to Manifold
90deg Elbow Reducer 63-51mm Diameters (ASH)
