does anyone know if my 2011 panda dynamic would have been fitted with an alarm on the higher models and if yes where it was fitted so i could try and buy one to fit in my panda which has remote central locking but just found out it has no alarm fitted, thanks peter

AFAIK a factory fitted alarm was never an option on any Panda.

As with most CANBUS cars, fitting an aftermarket alarm is problematic; the general consensus is that it's not worth considering unless you have an exceptional reason for needing one.

Exactly. The Panda was factory fitted with Jedi mind-tricks. "This is not the car you're interested in".

Another one of the benefits of owning one I guess.

Try this:

I bought one but have yet to fit it...a lot of negative comments about Meta Alarms though!

Panda Alarms. Hmmmm. They are good for keeping you (and your neighbours) awake
And for stress testing your battery.
And everyone ignores it once it has gone off a few times for no reason.
Good news is that they unplug quite easily.
And it's harder to steal the car when the battery is flat...

If the requirement is to reduce insurance premium/bolster anti-theft, you may be better off with a krooklock type device or a gear lever/handbrake lock. Most insurance companies have a list which they accept and reduce the premium accordingly.

If the aim is to stop the car being broken into, don't upgrade the stereo, don't leave valuables in sight, and park off road at night.

The panda has a proper certified immobiliser as standard, so insurers seem to rate them as fairly low risk for theft out of the box.

If you must have an alarm fit a cheap motion sensor and volt drop type INSIDE the cabin. Hidden away of course. If it goes off accidentally the noise won't wake you. It wont wake anyone else but as said people just ignore car alarms.

However with that howling INSIDE the car there is no way anyone will get inside, let alone try to start the car. If they break a window you WILL hear it.

Option 2 get a GPS tracker. You will be texted if the car moves when it should not have moved and the car can be traced so Police can go direct to the arrest.

You can get all singing all dancing fully monitored systems (e.g. Tracker) with costs to match or you can get one that texts your own mobile phone.

From someone who had an alarm fitted - DON'T DO IT!!!

The canbus will hate it and it will turn into a right pain in the posterior. On hindsight, I would not have done it.

thank you to all about fitting an alarm in my panda i did buy a cheap one off ebay but decided not to bother thanks to people who know better which has saved me a job but after owning lots of cars mostly much bigger than the panda and more comfortable with lots of toys this is the first car that has not had an alarm fitted which i suppose says a lot,
thanks again peter

A simple flashing LED that suggests an alarm is fitted on should be easy enough... and saves all the problems a 'real' alarm brings.

On an older Renault of mine, I wired an LED between the clock's power supply and the feed to the light for the clock. Just enough current would flow 'backwards' through the filament of the light when the ignition was off to make the LED flash, and as soon as the ignition was on, which lit the clock, the LED went off. Not sure you could play this trick with the Canbus controlled wiring of a newer car though.

It was a dealer fit option, and they're fairly reliable systems tbh.
