Hi,

I had my cam-belt replace recently. I think the timing may have been set a little retarded, cos it seems slower off the mark after the full service and belt replacement. Is that even possible? Can the timing be advanced to get it more responsive again?

Thanks,

Perhaps they were a notch or two out on replacing the belt and the engine management is trying to compensate. You should take it back.

You can't just twist the distributor to advance and retard the timing these days..........more's the pity!

So I had the service centre check out the cambelt and I explained my thoughts on the timing issue. They said they checked the timing and there is no problem. They also checked the computer and there doesnt seem to be any problem reflecting there either. Weird maybe its just in my head. It idles smooth and once the revs are up it takes off good from 4000 rpm to 6500, but takeoff from dead start is a bit hesitant with my foot flat and I have found myself reaching for the clutch to get the revs up when clearing intersections. Anyone else with that experience? Perhaps thats just normal? I borrowed an 1800 opel pickup while it was in for service, so maybe its simply in contrast to that...

If you dont mind me asking... Roughly how much did you pay for the cambelt to be changed and water pump if you had that done too? As mind has recently gone past the 30k mark so im wanting to change mine as soon as.

Also do you know if the super fire engines are non interfearance engines like the 8v? So if the worst was to happen and it snaps while driving it wont ruin the engine?

I think most folks pay about £200 to have the kit fitted but someone will come along shortly.

The 1.4 16v is definitely an interference engine.
