I know that some of the GP 1.3 multijets had a 6 speed box, I was just wondering if it was possible to fit one to my Panda multijet, as she really doesn't feel comfortable cruising at motorway speeds! Or as another thought, does anybody know if the 100hp 'box and linkage would fit without much trouble?

I'm soon going to have a decent motorway commute and really don't want to change cars as I love my little Panda! I've got plans for this car, it's already lowered on Fiat 500 coilovers and sitting on Bravo 16" wheels, got a Panda sporting bodykit and Punto Abarth spoiler ready to be fitted too, so I really don't want to let it go just yet!

Thanks in advance!

100hp has reduced steering lock to cope with the longer 6 speed box, this might need to be considered.

Also think gear ratios - the 100hp will pull 6500+ rpm, the Diesel much less - you will likely be worse off. Need to check of the petrol 'box is rated for the torque, too.

Fitting 100hp gearbox in MJ would be mad in my opinion and I've owned both .The MJ is perfect as it is .Low revving at motorway speeds yet pulls like a train ( relatively speaking) at 70-80mph+ and super economical .( I wouldn't bet my life on a 100hp being faster 80-100mph ) The 100hp gearbox is way too 'short' , high revving at cruising speed is bad enough in a petrol , in a diesel it would be awful .
Remap may worsen clutch slip depending on what they do .Car can barely cope with existing torque
Bigger ,wider wheels often slow cars down and can sometimes worsen handling

I think you've got your issue.

I'd be surprised if the bigger box would fit tbh, its already fairly tight under the hood in a dirty Panda ;)

The car drives and sits very smoothly and comfortably, it's just the revs above 60/65, it just feels like there should be another gear there for motorway speeds!

Would there be any really obvious issues with trying to put the 6 speed MJ box, linkage and selector in place of the 5 speed? Clutch, driveshafts, etc?

I won't be driving over 70, especially since that's illegal on public roads! The car revs quite high at motorway speeds as it is? What I'm trying to do is keep them down if possible, which is why I originally thought the 1.3 6 speed box would be the best way to go! I didn't realise the 100 was geared so short, otherwise I would've never considered it! I'm currently having to do about 55/60mph to keep the revs below 2k.

The wheels are only about 1.5" wider, but the standard wheels and eco tyres were terrible! It's on 16x7 Bravo wheels and 175/50/16s, so they're not a great deal wider than the original 155s, and maintain the original wheel and tyre diameter. They clear the arches on full lock and have no tramlining issues whatsoever!

Why not remap instead?

An good eco map may have to be the best compromise - Won't keep the revs down but will help the economy, which is what I'm hoping for!
