Hi, 2004 Panda Dynamic non air con - heater fan only working on no.4 setting.

I know there are several previous posts on this - I have searched on here and on the inter web and even Pm'd another member who has offered some sound advice (Thank you @ portland_bill) but can anyone ( who has perhaps replaced theirs) on the Forum offer any advice on how to access the resistor pack. I had a go at the weekend - disconnected the steering column from the rack, removed the small lower footrest panel and unplugged the connecting plug from the resistor and tucked the wires out of the way. I can just about see the head of the single screw that holds it in place (which I have determined needs a 5.5mm socket) but cannot get anything on it to undo it. Did manage to get a 1/4" drive socket on but there is not enough room to undo it even at one click at a time.
Have considered removing the lower trim console but after talking to portland_bill he doesn't think this will help with the access issue.
Gave up after a couple of hours but will be having another go later this week - so any advice, other than whipping the doors off and removing the dash completely will be appreciated.

sorry not had to touch ours..,

how many miles on the car..??

where are you / the car based?,

Thank you Charlie for the reply - I am ok with removing the lower dash panel but I don't think it will give any more access to the resistor pack.
The car has 52k on it now - I am based in Ilkeston, Derbyshire.
The job is very simple to do if you can gain access to it, I've done it recently on my Vauxhall Vectra which has a very similar set up but the resistor pack is located behind the glovebox on the passenger side - - very similar to the Punto.

The file is in Spanish but you can see just the photos:

Hi, Thank you for that - I presume with the text being in Spanish the car shown will be a LHD vehicle.
I think that is where my problem lies in that the resistor is still in the same place but Fiat have stuck the steering column, pedals and associated brackets, etc in front of it which makes access very difficult - but thanks again.

You're right, the car is LHD. Sorry

Re: Heater Resistor replacement - Help please - +UPDATE+

Well bit of an update : -
Managed to replace the resistor pack this morning - used a genuine part replacement as I didn't want to be doing this again in the near future :)
Disconnected the steering UJ from the steering rack and moved it out of the way. Also removed the lower footrest panel from the drivers footwell and set the clutch pedal so that it was down on the floor using a long reach socket between the arm of the pedal and a convieniently placed bracket just above. You then have to get your head in the footwell and look up above the pedals. You need a strong light source to see what your doing. Put plenty of padding on the floor of the car , as the doorsill really hurts you back when lying on it. You can just see the screw that holds the resistor in place - I presume mine was the original screw and it was a 5.5 mm headed self tapping type screw - you can just see it and get your hand up to touch it - I was lucky managed to hold a 5.5mm socket in my fingers and unscrewed it without having to use a wrench, it does not have to come all the way out as it is retained by the body of the resistor. It needed to be slid upwards slightly to unclip it out of the heater ducting housing. Bit tricky installing the new one, but basically put the holding screw in the hole on the new unit and then replace it, sliding it downwards unit it clicks. You then need to retighten the screw, which again I could only do finger tight because of the limited access, although after tightening it as tight as possible it did seem to be quite solid.
Re-plug the multi-plug, switch ignition on and check the fan is working ok on all speeds, re connect the steering UJ and the lower panel trim.
Very simple repair - made very difficult by near impossible access - but do-able.

Thanks everyone for their help/advice.

That Spanish file it totally useless for accessing the resistor for removal either left or right hand drive. A COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME DONT BOTHER DOWNLOADING.
