Evening all,

We have just bought a 2005 Panda 4x4 (after owning a 2004 Panda Active last year and wanting another Panda for a while!) and have a slight issue with the key.

The remote key locks and unlock the car but the boot popper doesn't work (indicators flash though, not a huge issue but worth mentioning just in case related!)
And the remote key doesn't start the car, the engine turns over but doesn't fire.

Spare key starts the car on the button.

I'm guessing there is a transponder chip issue, can you re-program the key by turning the ignition on and off X amount of times or pressing buttons with ignition on or something along those lines?

Other than that, the little car is spot on and we are very pleased with it. It drives like new :)

Thanks in advance

Hi, and welcome to FF,:)

the immobiliser checks the key's CHIP with an "aerial" at the ign.lock barrel,
once read the KEY /lock symbol on the dashboard extinguishes, and the engine CAN start.

check to see if that's the difference.;)

chip could be changed and then programmed into the cars Body Computer,

do the test 1st and we'll advise on options, (y)

my sporting's remote fob would not start the car either.

Got a new chip programmed into my car at timpsons on the high street for about £30 a few years ago and been ok ever since (y) took a bit of convinsing them it was almost like a new key without the key being cut but got there in the end lol.

the boot button needs to be pressed for a few seconds before it pops - the lock buttons wotk almost instantly...

Thanks for your replies!

I know the car has received the signal to pop the boot as the indicators flash, so I'm guessing the solenoid has gone or something like that.

When using the remote key in the ignition, the immobiliser light stays lit

Thanks again,

Hi again,
yes the key needs reprogramming for the Ignition.

the BOOT may be diagnosed with MultiECUScan ;)

lots of us on FF use it, as it's virtually dealer level diagnostic for a sensible price, :worship:

I did guess it would be something like that, just wanted to make sure I couldn't try anything for free before paying for key programming!

I'll report back once I get round to doing it, its not a huge issue for me at all so may be a while before its sorted.

Cheers!

only having 1 key capable of starting the car isn't ideal ;)

Re: Panda Not Starting with Keys

I would like to revive this thread. I have a Panda Dynamic 2007,owned from new. For domestic reasons the least used key is the remote, (she insists). The other key started to fail 2 weeks ago. I got it to the garage by parking on a hill and jump starting. They asked for the remote and it started perfectly, they couldn't get it to fail so advised me to get the key re-done and sent me on my way. I haven't got around to doing this yet.

Today the remote key has started to display the same symptoms. With both keys the padlock icon goes out.

Is your best guess the keys or something deeper?

Thanks

John

Yes but after a conversation with the guy who does the keys, and having advised him that both keys extinguish the padlock icon he says, "well then the car will start", so the issue is elsewhere. However I have ordered in my local auto electric mobile service and will report the result!

If the padlock symbol goes out the immobiliser has seen the key and enabled the ignition.

Try your questionable key with the other key away from the car. Lets say no start...

Try the working key. Lets say it starts...

Now try the questionable key to start the car while holding the working key against the ignition lock. If the car now starts, it is likely the questionable key chip is faulty.

Very late in the day but it might help someone, in my case the answer was nothing to do with the keys, replaced the starter motor and it's been perfect in the year since.

might have something to do with having the battery disconnected while the starter was changed ???

Although its close to the main wiring loom to the ECU

main thing its fixed (y)
