Been playing under the bonnet of the panda and noticed the air pipe from the front of the engine to the air filter box seems a bit loose.

Pushing the pipe back in the engine noise changes. It sounds like an induction/'vibration on the air box' type noise. I hate trying to identify noises!
Is the air box just pushed on?

Cheers

Airbox lead-in pipe is simply a push-fit into both the front grille moulding and airbox - held by plastic catches (squeeze to release type). Always going to be a bit loose, but should stay in place once fitted properly.

And the airbox itself just pulls off. Held fairly firmly by three rubber bushes - two at the front and a locating slot at the back. Needs a firm tug.
Should have said that earlier - sorry.

Thanks. This is why forums are so good. Ask the right question (doh) and you will get the answer to it.
Many thanks, I'll give it a good tug tomorrow (there is a rude joke there but I am on my best behaviour atm!)

The air feed pipe is simply held in with a pretty obvious push clip top and bottom - make sure both are clicked in.
Our MJ (bought new in 2007) had an airbox which was loose on the rubber bushes. With the engine running, just press down on the air box - if it's loose, you'll notice less noise immediately! Dealers weren't interested that it 'drummed' all the time, so I cured it with a self-tapping screw down the side of each rubber grommet. Crude, but it worked.

Same airbox also came unstuck along its middle seam (top/bottom) and had to be plastic glued back together after about a year.

Almost 8 years on and creeping up to 100K it's not caused any more problems :)

Thanks.

That is the noise, a Drumming / Vibration noise. Obviously me pushing on the inlet pipe has the same effect as pushing down on the airbox.

So ... lift off the airbox and you will see the two rubber 'pillars' that it locates onto. Sharp pull upwards at the front to remove airbox.
Wrap these pillars with a bit of electricians tape, and do the same to the rear location as well if necessary, and the drumming will have gone. They may be loose on the steel uprights, and if so you can remove the rubber grommets and wrap the uprights with tape instead, then replace the grommets. Or as Trimdoner says.

Thanks. I have some self amalgamating tape we use for insulating waterproof joints. It will be just like adding more rubber to the pillars.
