was washing my panda this afternoon and noticed a strange mark underneath the rear passenger side door, i opened the door and theres a couple of fairly large rust bubbles on the sil on the door shut line. They look like they have originated from underneath the car as theres no damage to the paint around there. Question is, is this a common issue on these cars (Mines an 07 100hp) and would it be covered by the anti corrosion warranty which i believe is 8 years, so mine is still in that period?

I must admit i've never seen rust on a panda of this age and i would imagine the warranty would only be honoured with a full main dealer history.

Yeah i was shocked to see it, definately going to go to Fiat and see what they say, there shouldn't be rust to this degree on a car of this age imo.

The only rust on my car is on the exhaust back box. If I was seeing bodywork rust I'd be very concerned the car had been badly repaired after an accident.

I know what you're saying but theres no sign of accident damage and it's HPI clear. In fact the whole car is flawless other than this.I need to take the side skirt off and figure out where the source of the problem is.

HPI doesn't tell you if the car has been an accident, only if it has been written off. It could have easily been in an accident had a good repair but an insufficient paint job.

FIATs don't tend to rust, the only thing that is rusting on my 2010 is the back box.

The Panda is (like most modern cars) fully galvansied so shouldn't rust at all (other posts here about missing underseal and use of Waxoyl - not really an issue) Mine has a few light scrapes on the sills and so on from off road use, and even after several years, the metal that was revealed remains rust-free. What you describe sounds like rust from within, which I'd suggest is even less likley in a car that was 'dunked' into a galvanising bath before being painted. Does sound like accident damage been repaired in that area? Sanding through the galvanising layer and filling may lead to chance of rust forming?

Are you sure they are rust as i have seen paint lift away from the bodywork before where moisture has got between the paint and the metal.

:yeahthat:

Fiat won't do anything unfortunately, anti perforation is perforation which makes a complete hole in a panel, not surface rust unfortunate :(

I'll have to have a look, i've not dared remove any of the paint yet to see whats underneath.
