Hi there!

I own a cinquecento that has been 1.242 8v, 1242 8v Turbo and now we prepare it for a panta 4x4 transmition. Not the first panda but the second generation.

We have the rear system of the panda 4x4, the gearbox and the midlle axle.
I would like to know if my 1242 8v (punto elx) fits pandas gearbox and if so, if a Tjet motor fits on this gearbox.

I have read this topic about 4x4 on a 500 but I am preparing a rally car so it didn't helped me so much..

Our car is a demo car designed for "formula salloon" rally category in Greece so I would apreciate any help on the specific questions.. Thanks! (y)

If there is any interest on the project I could upload photos as soon as we will start mounting.. Right now is on interior (roll cage etc) preparation.. :slayer:

Hi ktRinity, sounds like a superb project, and would love to see the pictures !.
From looking at ePER, the transmission bellhousing appears to be the same part number for the 1.1, 1.2, 1.4 and JTD transmissions if that is of any use ? - it is limited information though.

(that is for the 03 /12 panda)
 
The 1242 8v goes straight on, since this is what the Panda 4x4 has as a standard engine option.

T-Jet will mount up no problem. You then need a flywheel, clutch plate and cover from a non-turbo 1368 or 1242 car which has a 200mm clutch face diameter. The clutch plate will allow you to use the smaller splines of the C514 type gearbox fitted to lower powered cars like the 4x4 Pandas.

This will work, but given your intended application, I would recommend a racing paddle clutch with uprated springs and suitable uprated cover too to give you a chance of avoiding slipping, even on an unmodified T-Jet engine.

I hope you do make this as I would be interested to see how long the gearbox/ transfer box lasts under these sort of conditions as I had toyed with a similar idea myself.
 
My 1242 elx motor already has a 200mm clutch disc so I will look about the splines.. right at this moment we are preparing roll cage and interior and the day after tomorrow we will start the floor work as well..
I am almost done reading your tjet uno T threat!!
 
For the record, my 1242 8v Turbo motor was 170 bhp using a 5speed (punto75) gearbox, a 200mm clutch and an one way LSD differential. No clutch slipping problems, no broken splines problems.

I can't calculate having the panda parts the exact weight of cinque but I suppose I was around 700kgr on 1242 turbo setup.. Thumbs up for the good luck wish!

Because my original question was if I can fit 1242t or tjet on panda 4x4 transmition. I then started my project topic in cento section.. ;-)

The coupling is only done at the rear differential pinion, so you don't need to think about the gearbox end. You appear to have the later of the two main types of rear differential. I think you have an electro-pneumatic coupling, looking at the below diagram taken from ePer (5 is the electro-pneumatic valve).

I am surprised there aren't others on here who own these vehicles which can help or give you history of the various types. I am only making assumptions based on a little research and ePer.

And really thankfull that you're trying to help..

The pneumatic valve has 2 REALLY thin wires (0,50 or 0,75) and I don't think it is controlled by electric current. It seems as a sensor.

I removed the valve and it has something like a ball inside.
When I had it gauged, on the top point it was 8.8kOhm and on the opposite was Open circuit (MOhm). I think it is a sensor for... Something! :p Maybe fluid pressure or level.

So if (as I too think it is) an electroydraulic model, which way may I control the coupling of the rear diff? :rolleyes:
