Daughter came home yesterday afternoon complaining her
Panda had a funny noise. And it did sound pretty bad as she pulled up outside.
Its a 55 plate 1.1 Active, only done 29k. We bought it a year ago with 19k on it.
Looking around under the bonnet the sound seems to be coming from the bottom pulley, and it looks like its vibrating, or oscillating.
I've had a search around here and other places on the net, but can't find any common faults regarding the bottom pulleys!! They do come up as a replacement item costing anything from about £40 to over £100, which suggests they are a 'service item' as such. I'm guessing there's some kind of damper built into them, a bit like dual mass flywheels??
Can anyone shed some light on it please? Are they known to fail?
Cheers(y)

Also, I just read your post in the number of pandas -
you are saying you paid 1800 quid for the car with 19k on the clock ? ...........

Did you not for one minute suspect there may be a reason.... ? (The dealer ending the auction at whatever time and looking dissapointed is not proof of a bargain - sorry - it is a standard part of a scam )
I dont mean to be a party pooper, but I think I would look at the main ECU mileage compared to the clock mileage ... also, the brake ABS ecu will tell you the number of starts.
Also, get a list of previous owners and check with them.
If you have, and it is cosha, then well done ! - bargain, I just tend to find things, especially on ebay - that seem too good to be true - ARE :)

Nice start matey, thanks for the positive input. (n)

Yes we did pay that, for a one owner car, owned by an old local couple from new, yes the dealer was pissed, he cocked up the listing. We're more than happy the car is genuine, we checked it out with hpi checks etc, which confirmed minimal use between mots. It also has the usual bumper scuffs that go with elderly owners cars. The interior and under bonnet areas are mint, not cleaned, just not used. And two tyres are original with 05 date stamps, the other two brand new.
So please crawl back under yer rock and stay there matey. I came on here for help and advice on my problem, not to find out who was this forums keyboard warrior.

Any other helpful advice still welcomed please guys.

You are welcome (y)

I love the fairy story buying experience too :D
Almost as good as the "one lady owner - never raced or rallied yer 'onor"....."Breaks me 'art to let it go... you were really lucky as I cocked up the sale, but, fairs fair, 'eres the keys guv'ner", sob sob..
:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Oh dear, the ends fallen off..

hi,
I'm not aware of any "damping" on the 1.1's,
having done the cambelt several times on my 2004 1.1 active, :)

I'll try and post a pic of mine apart..;) pics here..!!
https://www.fiatforum.com/panda/341204-crankshaft-position-sensor-p0335-where.html

the pulley for driving the alternator is held on with 3 x M6 bolts = 13 HEX heads,
if you unbolt these 3 and remove the pulley,
then run the car briefly and see what it sounds like ( not driving the alternator),
on reassembly beware of the TINY little pip, and corresponding hole in the pulley,

Crank pulley's are usually dampened.
The outer (that the belt runs on) and inner part (bolted to the crank) are bounded together with rubber and it's not unheard of for them to wobble about when worn.

Bigger turbo diesels tend to suffer due to the "sudden" torque they can produce.

A new pulley should be a straight forward fit, lock the engine in gear and brakes on, then breaker bar on the bolts.

Locktight the bolts back in (careful not to cross thread 'em) and torque them up tight (plus another quarter turn)
A new belt and you're done.

Managed to pull a few bits apart last night. And it's not the pulley, something on the pulley just looks like its vibrating, but its fine. Its simpler than that, it's the water pump. So I'll be sorting a pump and pair of belts today.

Blimey, it must be a laugh-a-minute at your house eh? :(

Anyway, reminds me of a Citreon Berlingo I bought from the trade 6 years ago (rare for me, prefer private). Advert appeared in Auto Trader last thing Friday eve - no picture, Main Dealer trade-in arriving tmw. Could be a facelift I thought, arrived 8am next day, was indeed a facelift, deposit put down within 5 minutes with the pitch 'lad', price 2K less than should be. Boss arrived 15 mins later and went ballistic - he'd placed the ad without seeing the car . He tried everything to get me to back out, even offered me 500 more to 'buy' the car back, and the constantly ringing phone wanting to view the car didn't help his pain :bang:

Still got it now, been perfect, bargains DO happen (y)
