When the heater is on setting 1 it consistently makes a noise, like a computer fan does. Not loud but annoying.
Does anyone know if there's a way to stop the noise? WD40 or something?
It doesn't make noise on setting 2 when the fan is faster.
Thanks1

How old is the car ?
Has it always done it ?
if not, when did it start ?

You could take the blower assembly out and clean it, it is probably just dust and cr&p build up on the blower fins.
If the car was / is owned by a smoker it will probably be total mank on the blower. :(

Of course, it could be normal :), the blower is not the quietest I have ever heard on any setting, I thought that was what the Blaupunkt was for. (y)

2006 Panda (1.2 Dynamic) with 35k miles.
I've only owned for 6 months, but just started taking my mum to work in it and so don't have the radio as loud as I do when I'm alone.
Car doesn't smell of smoke, don't think it was owned by a smoker.
Blower fins you say? Is it easy to get to them? Are they just behind the directional blowers on the dash?
Thanks!

Hi mate,
It is simple to remove,
glovebox out, (disconnect battery FIRST !!!) then leave 10 mins before work to let any capacitors in airbag system discharge. remove airbag switch in glove box and disconnect wiring, remove glove box, peer inside towards center area with torch, you should see blower motor with 1 securing bolt and wiring lug, remove both then twist and manoeuvre it out (the motor assembly - I don't mean actually do the dance the twist lol)
refitting as they say, is a reversal..
sometimes cr&p builds up on the fins of the tangential blower, it can make noises (the wrong ones) at certain rpm - so it is a good place to start looking and easy (reasonably) to get to.
ALso have a good look around the vents as a loose vent on the outloet pipes can make strange noises too..
Have fun, best of luck - dont forget what I said re airbag switch - negative battery terminal off and isolated for 10 mins (5 is ok - but better safe than deaf and covered in talcum powder with holes in plastic fascias etc etc etc.
(y)
Enjoy....;)
