D'oh! Mine is definitely diamond!

But I would kill anyone who would rub my windscreen with anything! The first thing I do when I would be in another car is clean the windscreen properly. I hate dirty marks! Lol

I went and sat in one of the Pandas by the way. I thought it felt a little cramped. I'd wanna take this sucker on the motorway, I guess the cabin isn't the nicest place to spend several hours...

Depends what you're used to, I guess.

I'm 5'9" and can sit in the Panda for 4-5 hours on the motorway without feeling any discomfort.

It actually feels a bit more spacious than the 500; visibility is way better.

well women ruin windscreens - but thats a mans fault as well.

After the debate about air-conditioning and condensation, glass scratched by a diamond ring wasn't what I thought about first.

I couldn't possibly comment as I'm only the height of nonsense! :p

I do believe we have a few six footers in the Panda section...

well think OP was asking which panda to buy after first passing test, and after all this they dont like sitting in one.
i do 40 miles every day on motorway and never found it uncomfortable or cramped in fact find it better that my previous punto was but maybe thats cos its sooo much quieter

Same. As soon as fingers or hands starge going towards any window, even if not to wipe it, the fog horn starts u and the perpetrator soon backs down :p

Even smears etc, I'd rather sit and wait for the AC to clear fogged up windows in 30sec than wipe it with a hand or rag.

Probably thinking "What a bunch of nutters! Perhaps I'll turn out that way too if I buy a Panda..." :D

I'm 20 and my insurance renewal on my 100HP is coming up in the next few weeks. I can get fully comp cover from reputable insurers for between £450 and £500. I know that's expensive compared to what "old" people could get on the same car, but it's about the same as my dad pays to insure his Audi and he's in his early 50s with a clean history. .
Oi, less of the "old", Mush. Mind you, I never thought I'd say this....but I'm older than your dad. Even then, we're not old, we're just not as fully funtioning as we used to be yer young whippersnapper.

Mind you, if you're paying £500 pa for a 100HP then you must live in the world's lowest car-crime area. I pay £500 for a MJ with 100% loading for business use, in other words, £250 for SDP and travelling to work. There are people of your age paying over £2000 to insure a basic 1.0 Corsa, 1.1 Ka or 1.2 GP round here.

Old indeed. Now, where did I put me pipe. There it is, in me dressing gown pocket gently smouldering. Now, who's moved me slippers. ;)

Haha, I meant no offence :). To be fair to my dad, you could buy about 10 of my car for one of his, so £500 isn't too unreasonable, even if he is one of you oldies :p!

Yes, there is pretty much no car crime (or any crime, to be honest) where I live at home. That, and despite being only 20, I have 3 years of totally clean driving and a Pass Plus qualification under my belt. I know people think that every young driver crashes a 1.0 Vauxhall Corsa, on its roof, into someone's front garden within 12 months of passing their test, but we're not all the same, honest.

I'm also OCD about getting the best quote when it comes to renewal time. I currently reside in Yorkshire for Uni, I fit right in with the "HOW MUCH!?" approach to money :p! I guess it also helps that I don't need to pay for business use, seeing as I have no business to attend to.

We (Mrs. Beard) a medium sized dog and I often use it to go to Middlesbrough which is 120 miles and 2 hours away.

I've also used mine for driving tuition having spent up to 4X2 hour sessions in a day in it. There are many more unpleasant places to be.

I've covered over 85,000 miles in my MJ since I bought it new in 2005 and I must admit I'm pretty chuffed with it. When I bought it I think it may well have been the most powerful Panda as well as the most economical. It's averaged 55-59 mpg in normal everyday use and will just about top 62 cross country.

The total replacements, excluding service items, have been mostly the kind of thing I'd expect to go. As far as I can remember they are:

2 sets of tyres, currently on 3rd set.
3 sets of wiper blades " " 4th set.
1 pair of anti-roll bar drop links.
2 MAF sensors 3rd needed.
2 sets of front pads, currently on 3rd set.
1 set of rear shoes, currently on 2nd set.
1 timing chain at 82,000-ish miles.
1 EGR valve at 82,000-ish miles.
1 sump pan at 82-ish miles.
1 handbrake assembly & cable.
2 O/S/F shock absorbers. 1st one at 70,000 miles and it was replaced again at 80,000.

It's recently developed a fault in the N/S/F door lock and won't latch remotely but will lock manually.

And that's about it. No failed bulbs even. The number of VW group cars I've seen this winter with failed bulbs is quite worrying.

In answer to the OPs original question (he's probably gone and bought a Corsa by now) if he doesn't do a huge mileage then I'd suggest the 1.2 Dynamic or Eleganza if he can find one. If he's not keeping it very long then having to do a cambelt change will cost less than a chain, plus he wont' have to fork out for an EGR valve.

I've only driven a 1.2 once and felt it was a bit more responsive in the handling department as it's lighter at the front end than the MJ.

We have owned our cars a similar time and done a similar mileage but the roads around your way must be much better as I've gone through many more suspension parts than you.

And my sidelight bulbs are the only ones I have changed!

Looks like a mod somewhere edited my last message (rude). To those it may concern, please for the love of god don't hijack other peoples threads to have petty arguments about aircon. Start a new thread or pm each other, thanks

You are correct, it was edited by a Mod, although not me. Having said that, if I'd seen it first I'd have done the same. There was a complaint about your use of language, and although you didn't swear, the point could have been made well without it.

As to post hi-jacking, I don't think it was deliberate as it seemed to start in respect to a comment concerning equipment levels. Had someone commented that roof bars are a good idea and then posted their holiday pictures of them surfing in Newquay, then that would probably have constituted a hi-jack.

Whatever dude. If the post hadn't been hijacked with a petty argument maybe i would have had more relevant responses. A few people with small tools looking to feel superior.
