I asked at my local dealership yesterday if they had heard of any plans for a Sporting or Abrath Panda version anytime soon....they didn't have any specific details but said they had heard a rumour that there may be the possibility of a Sporting version within the next year or so....woaah!

Anyone else heard anything or found any news on the net about this?

I saw a photo of a new panda abarth, but dismissed it as a hoax... may see if I can find it again.

Yeah, I just read that there were plans for an Abrath version but they have been suspended by Fiat (n)

Also found news on the net that there will indeed be a Panda Sporting Special Edition available at UK dealerships in the next month or so!!! (just shows how clued up my local dealer is eh?!)....but before you get all excited there is only going to be 400 of these for sale....and even worse.....it's gonna have the diesel multijet engine....non tweaked! (n)

at 9k and a very non 'sporting engine' I think I'll be looking elsewhere for some grunt behind the wheel when it's time to change :(

I read in this months Auto italia that the warm/hot version of the Panda is to be dubbed the Pandamonium and will have a 100BHP petrol 1.4 with lowered suspension...

The Abarth Panda has been in the pipeline ever since the New Panda showed its face, it was also in a car magazine a few months back with a full review of the Abarth History and all about the car and its 105 BHP 1.4 FIRE Engine, 6 speed gear box and adaptive suspension 0 - 60 in less than 8 seconds.

NOTE: Abarth only selects certain cars to be branded a real Abarth as such and the Abarth Cinquecento and Abarth Seicento are not real Abarth cars, they where simply badged up but not really represented by the legend of Abarth. However the New Panda Abarth will be the First real Abarth car since the Abarth MK2 HGT Punto and before that the Uno Abarth to represent the legendary Abarth motor heritage. :D

.................

This is the actual picture of the Panda Abarth and yes it will have grey arches etc as Fiat think it looks sporty  I think it would be a great looking car if they sprayed them red :D but I guess its not to hard to do that ourselves..

A Panda HGT would of been nice, I always felt abit unhappy with the fact Fiat never released an Seicento HGT with the 1242 16v as standard which would of been the best choice of engine for the car because:

Punto HGT = 1.8 16v
Punto Sporting = 1.2 16v
(Seicento HGT = 1.2 16v)
Seicento Sporting = 1.1 8v

Reason for me saying the 1242 16v is because Fiat wouldnt give the bigger Punto HGT the same engine as the Seicento HGT so naturally they should give the top of the range Seicento the same engine as the middle range Punto i.e. Sporting and give the Seicento then the HGT badge.

This would of been an excellent move for Fiat as you just have to look at the popularity of the 1242 engine on this forum to see that if they had done it standard then alot more people would of bought it and insurance would be less as it doesnt carry a transplanted engine sign above its head!

Sadly Fiat is not what it use to be and they now work on the fact that maximum sales wont of been reached with the HGT Seicento so it was props never considered which is a shame because this forum and many others have proved to Fiat that the 1242 would of been an excellent car under the HGT badge!

GLADLY Fiat is not what it used to be - it is turning things around

have faith!

LOL at Abarth thread! There hasnt been a REAL Abarth since the Strada 130TC, the Punto HGT is a pussycat! Thing with the Panda is this, no matter what engine you put in it, it just doesnt look sporty at all! Its a city car that is very good, excellent in fact but its too tall and narrow to look good as a sporty car, IMO it looks silly with those skirts. Fiat are trying to cover up the fact they are too scared to make the Trepiuno, so are doing lots of Pandas up instead.

A ***** cat maybe but it is still classed as a real Abarth car :D maybe to alot of people who drove the original abarth cars the next generation of Fiat Abarth's are as quoted ***** cats but I still love the Abarth HGT Punto very nice car :D

I hope those reports are right but I'm afraid all the Abrath news seems to be old hat now...put on indefinite hold by Fiat  .......RobW, I wasn't dissin the Multijet...it's a fantastic engine (look at the diesel VW unit in the Skoda vRS) the 1.3JTD does have possibilities but for the sporting badge it should come hot hatch ready (especially at 9 grand)........let's wait and see...it's only this one site that is giving the news (they are usually right though) but we'll see.......a 1.4 16v 105bhp petrol unit would have got me chomping at the bit though.

Oh I dunno mate....I left a brand new Range Rover Sport for dead earlier today....it just could not keep up with me through the bends at 70+ ;)

I agree after all shouldn't an Abarth be a bit more than just a different bodykit and alloys in other words it should have wilder engine and more competition orientated suspension setup (a bit like Honda have done with their Type R's or Ford with the RS range back in the 70's) a bit of track day special.

Agreed (y)

Unfortunately Fiat seem incapable of holding themsleves back from destroying it's own history with a body kit and a big engine. Abarth was about minimal weight, fully developed suspension, small engines with high revs etc. A body kitted Stilo/ Punto/ Panda is not a proper Abarth. Call it a Sporting/ HGT/ GT etc. by all means, but leave Abarth to the real deal. Carlo must be turning in his grave at the sight of this lot...

I agree with Jaxx, Novitec done a great job!! (y)

But still not as good as the Sei Sporting in in my opinon!! Now that is great looking sporting car!! (y)

Think the Fiat version with the grey arces, looks like a highbred, like a sports car/4x4!! :p
