Well this has turned into a right old ball ache.I am now on my third squib as they keep sending ones with the wrong connectors on the back, I have now decided to just stump up for a brand spanker at £72,at least I will know the spring unit is correct.

The problem now is, I have to go and pick up the part 10 miles away across town and I took the old unit apart to take the stalks out,and in the process mullered(completely removed!)the old ribbon.

I am safe to put the stalks and wheel back on and drive across town with the airbag and horn unplugged, I can't see why not as they were connected to a dodgy clock spring any way.

Yes that'll be fine if not plugged in, just have no horn and the airbag light.

I drove a mk3 with the drivers airbag physically removed for a few days back in 2009, and I survived :p

None of the cars I drove between 1971 & 2002 had an airbag. At least half a million miles and I'm still here to write about it :).

That's not to say I'd be happy driving very far without one now. LadyKitching had a bad head-on (not her fault) a few years back & if she'd been driving with the airbag disabled would most certainly not have survived.

I'd certainly feel vulnerable now driving a classic without seatbelts or a collapsible steering column.
