Tried to turn on the radio this morning and the display just says 'Code Error'.

Car is a 2010 1.2 Dynamic.

It's worked perfectly until now. Anyone know what's occuring?

Thanks in advance.

has it lost power to radio? Needs security code putting in .or wrong code been entered!

Nope, that's what is strange about it.

It's worked perfectly since new & this happened completely out of the blue.

Everything else on the car is fine, there's no indication of any kind of battery issue.

The radio code is stored in the body computer, so I'm suspecting the body computer data may somehow have got corrupted.

Note that it's not asking for a code, it's saying there is a 'code error'.

The manual that came with it is essentially useless and this error message isn't documented :bang:.

It's a Bosch unit & I do have the code, but there's no apparent way of entering it.

hmm standard blaupunkt radio? Some people have had issues with this and could be radio at fault going faulty! Is it still under warranty?Bosch radio?

Yes it's the standard radio that came with the car. It's over 3yrs old now so out of warranty.

The code card says 'BOSCH'; Blaupunkt used to be a 100% owned subsidiary of Bosch.

LadyKitching will be displeased if this piece of s**t (sorry, radio) has failed after less than 4 yrs.

Could be a CANmiscommunication between radio and bodycomputer. Disconnecting the battery for a short while might reset communication.

gr J

Yes, I'm thinking along the same lines & will give the battery disconnect a try when the car comes back home this evening.

UPDATE:

Disconnecting the battery for 15 mins has seemingly fixed the problem and the radio fired up straight away without asking for the code.

Weird.

Our new house has electronic gates & LadyK says the last thing she remembers doing before the problem started is using the remote gate fob to open the gates from inside the car with the radio on.

Coincidence?

I recently upgraded my speakers and added an sub on my fiat qubo. I have the factory bosch radio which keeps reading code error and won't let me input the code. What to do please.

Had the same issue and fixed it! Posting this for anybody else having the same issue. "CODE ERROR" was displaying on my radio when I started my car the other day. The only thing I could do was turning it off and on again, displaying the same error. At some point the lamp behind the start button didn't even turn off, even when my key wasn't connected.. I fixed it by searching "fiat 500 disconnect battery" and watching the first video I could find. I only removed the + cable from the battery with a 10 mm wrench and then connected it back again. When I started my car the radio immediately worked again!

Just wanted to thank you for posting this. Had exactly the same problem and fixed by disconnecting battery for 10 mins. Now just have to reset clock etc but that is minor - you have probably saved me fortune in unnecessary and unproductive garage fees.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Glad you've got it sorted.

Disconnecting the battery is usually worth a try if the car's electronics throw a glitch. It's also worth checking the integrity of the main earthing strap; they're prone to corrode, leading to continuity problems and spurious electrical faults.

I have purchased a new radio. It keeps showing code error and will not let me enter the code. I disconnected the power but no joy. Any other suggestions? Thanks

Hi it’s a second hand from a fiat 500 into a fiat 500 as pictured. There is power getting to it but this is what it’s displaying and won’t let me click ok so I can’t even attempt to put in the code. This is how it’s been since installation

Far to fancy for the pre 2012 panda section

I assume there is a clash between the code stored on the radio and the body computer and it's licking it out, pure guess

But people on the 500 section should be able to help you more
