I own a 2007 57 reg Fiat Panda 1.2 Eleganza which i've had for 2 years now. It's been a great little car but it's developed an annoying rattle from the front suspension. I first noticed the rattle about 18 months ago. After investigation I found the front near side drop link had play in it. This was replaced and that particular rattle stopped. I also checked the off side front drop link at the same time and that was ok, no play in it.
The other rattle sound coming from the front suspension only really occurs when going over big speed humps. It's not heard at any other time. As I say it's been doing this for a while now and doesn't affect the car in any way, i.e, the car doesn't pull or wander at all. It's just annoying more than anything.
Any ideas as to what might be causing this?

Droplinks are favourite, when they go they can feel like the rattle is under your feet, across the front of the car and you often sense something is really loose!

There's been a few cars that the wishbone bushing has been causing rattles, seems common after a few years.
The ball joints attached to the wishbone can clonk about when worn as well.

Top strut mounts/bearings can clonk about and if you're unlucky, the rod in the damper can knock.

These sort of things can be hard to pinpoint.
Droplinks are hard to test, they can feel ok, but once you're on the move rattle like buggery.
They're fairly cheap, so it worth changing them anyway.
Steer clear of pattern parts on suspension items, they're false economy.

Jacking up and pulling at the wheel, (rocking/lifting it, 3 and 9 then at 12 and 6 O clock) will often show slack somewhere.
If you can feel play, get someone to rock for you while you hold on to various joints, you'll feel the one causing the issue.

A bar in the wishbone and jemmy the bushes can show a loose bush.

To test the top mount, open the bonnet and get someone to drive back and forth a short distance while you watch the top mounts when the brakes are applied (fairly sharp braking).
The mounts will move every so slightly, but carefully watch the nut in the middle, see if it flops about inside the mount.
