Decide to upgrade the standard MP3 head unit with a DVD double din.
I have a JVC DVD player in my MX5 so looked at these first.

After a couple of hours work sat morning, and some minor cuts, I'm quite pleased with the results :)

It's a JVC KW-AV61BT unit. Sound quality is really good, even with the existing speakers.
I bought various leads for the steering wheel controls, but they didn't work(n)
(To be honest, I probably don't need them.)
However, I did buy the iPhone lead, although it does stream music via Bluetooth, it will now show pics and video on the screen as well.

A lot to learn and play with but so far very happy. :D

Sitting in my loft I have a pioneer avic system, I fitted it then reboxed it. It's so high up on the dashboard I didn't want to tempt thieves with it. Can't believe a£2500 unit isn't even coded.im standard oem with a ****e parrot now. Liking an iPad mini custom install though.

Looks good! Where did you get the surround? eBay?

So do none of the wiring looms for aftermarket stereo allow the steering wheel controls to work?

They will, if you get a Panda stalk interface with JVC patch lead. I havent done it to my car but other cars in the past were just plug&play.

Had another go with the connect2 and some progress.
Found a better instruction diagram on the connect2 website and it shows to plug the patch lead in first

Did this and followed leads in sequence and got the call & hang up buttons working on the steering wheel. Unfortunately the other buttons & the mic didn't work so unplugged it all.

On the train to work this morning, I found a post on another non fiat forum about the second brown wire on the jvc patch lead which had no label.
Need to connect this to the blue steering wheel remote lead on the jvc HU, so will try this tonight.

After another play this eve, I can now use all the steering wheel buttons :)
However, the original car mic doesn't work, so have to use the one with the head unit.

For anyone else thinking of changing their radio, I used :

1 x CON-CTSFA006 - CTSFA006 Stalk Adapter for Fiat Panda
1 x CON-CTJVCLEAD2 - Connects2 JVC Stalk Adaptor

From car audio direct.
