So i changed clutch on a 2004 1.2 Panda now it won't reverse, its going forward in reverse gear. All other gears are working fine. So im just wondering what i did wrong and if its an easy fix or i need to drop the gearbox again and start afresh. Thanks.

Which parts did you disconnect?

Make sure both the cables are reconnected on the shifter

make sure there's nothing trapped under the leavers. They need to fall down under gravity.


make sure the cables are properly in there correct slot on the plate thats bolted to the gearbox


Cables can only fit on the correct lever as the ball and sockets are different sizes. But the cables should run straight to the plate


there is an adjustment on the left and right cable which is a button under the gearstick in the car. But if you put everything back correctly it shouldn't need adjusting.

My son had left the car in reverse when he was fitting the clutch and then refitted the linkages WITHOUT putting the car back into neutral.

This shifted the gate over so 5th 6th and reverse were not accessible. (1 and 2 were in the 3 and 4 position)
