hi guys,

driving me a little crazy this one and would appreciate any feedback.

in my 2010 panda there is a buzzing noise that seems to come from the two rear quarters (internally) when I am driving. Sounds a little bit like speaker crackle but im pretty sure its not as it still occurs when the sound system is off.

it gets worse with vibration, there is a noticeable change in volume when you are travelling at motorway speeds and the road surface suddenly changes.

Any ideas what it could be? Its driving me nuts!

Thanks

its just over two years old so would probably be just out of the fully inclusive warranty.

the dealer service is that bad i would honestly rather fix it myself rather rely on those muppets!

Hard to know without hearing it. Best thing is to have a really good look around it. See if anything is loose or has got jammed under the car (crisp packets can make amazing noises when they get stuck under a car), check tyres, wheels, brakes etc. Hand brake cable support clips, exhaust mounts, anything that could rattle or vibrate at a high frequency when you moving. Might be an idea to get someone to sit in the back and try and pinpoint the noise location.

Rear parcel shelf locked in properly? We lost the sleeves off the locating pegs on ours and it vibrated good and proper 'till I found a piece of rubber tubing which, just, jammed over the things.

I suggest you clear out as much cr@p as possible and take it for a spin - take out the rear parcel shelf, boot carpet, spare wheel and tools, plug the rear seat belts into their sockets, perhaps even fold the rear seat(s), remove everything from door pockets.

Tracking these things down is usually a process of elimination which may end up with you driving around in a bodyshell with no panels or doors if you take it too far :D

if you have an aftermarket sound system(and cheep) it might feed crap even if it's switch off(it's really a stand-by mode) but I can't see that changing with the road surface.. anyhow might try unplugging it completely, or maybe checking the wires, they might be rubbing on something.

also have you checked for bees? (unlikely to make a lot of noise but when I got my car second hand it had been sitting for a while and I had a small wasp nest in one of the door jambs)
