Ive tried the search... But cant find much..

Need to get the heater out of the panda... Anyone know how?

Before i go out there and just wing it....

Cheers for any help guys...

Not to be funny, but why not keep all your posts in the same topic? That way when someone has the same issues as you they know where the temp sensor is and how to get the dash apart.

I saw a Panda in the dealers a couple of years back where they were removing the heater to replace the actuator used by the climate control (I suspect you have the same issue)

I looked horrendous -- as MEP says, both front doors completely removed, and I seem to recall the front seats too. It really looks as if they start by putting the heater in the middle of the factory and then building the whole car around it!

Cheers for the info guys...Mangaged to get to the offending item by unbolting the whole dash and moving it out.

Didnt have to remove the actual heater in the end... what a work up...

Think your right about them building the car round it.
Cant see any other way they could have made that harder :(

Thread revival but better than lthe clutter of a new one

I have a dreaded climate control flap failure and would like to (maybe) fit a normal control knob heater.

Questions

I can see that taking out the front seats makes life easier. Its a simple enough job.

Why do the doors need to come off? I can't see any hidden fasteners in the door shuts.

What tips an anyone offer for finding all the necessary bolts, etc.

I’ve not done it before, but if people say you have to do something as ridiculous as taking the doors off, they’re probably telling you to do it for a good reason.

Neither have I, but I have reviewed the procedure in eLearn and been out to look at the Panda this evening. So with that disclaimer out of the way...

There's a large supporting beam behind the facia which has to come off. It's bolted through from the outside of the front wings, inside the line of the door shuts. These bolts are clearly visible with the doors open.

My understanding is that you need to take off the doors to gain enough access to remove these bolts. It does look quite tight in there.

Dave, I'd suggest you review the procedure in eLearn before taking this on - there's a copy in the downloads section which covers the 100HP. It really does look to be a nightmare job - I'm guessing the heater box is the first thing that goes into the shell when the car is being built. If you do take it on, please report back and let us know how it goes.

I used to work at a Council Works Depot. I watched the guys there strip a Peugeot 405 dash from a lease car and put it back in an afternoon. They needed two for part of the job, but it was not half as bad as I expected and not one swear word was heard. I am sure the doors on the Panda will need to go or there is a very high risk of damage!

If you go ahead I wish you good fortune.

There was a fella who changed the entire box in a 500

Had good pics ..

I'm thinking of doing that. Swap the whole heater box for a control knob type to get rid of the weak servo controlled flaps on the climate control.

My question about why take off the doors was simply asking. And now replied to. Thanks. (y)

I had another look this morning and there they are (clear as day) some pretty big bolts going in from the door shuts. Who knows how I missed seeing them. I will deffo go through eLearn to get the procedure. And I may well just put up with it.

Dave, if anyone here can do this, it's you. But just because you can do something, doesn't mean that you should. This isn't a "fix it or scrap it" fault like a broken spring pan; the car will still be useable if you do nothing. Like you, I'd be questioning whether the reward justifies the gargantuan amount of hassle this job seems to involve.

I've heard it said that one of the things which constrains our ability to be truly successful is "doing well something which we shouldn't be doing at all". I'm wondering if this is one of those things.

It almost certainly is one of those things. It's stuck on the screen which is fine for now. I will have to decide what to do if it continues to throw out hot air when the summer arrives. On the bright side I'd have no trouble reaching that ridiculously placed heater speed control widget. (sarcasm)

PS. A broken rear spring pan is easy to fix even with an Aldi stick welder like mine ;)
