General Fiat Panda Mylife 2011 - Engine problem

purchased new Jan 2012 hessitant in first gear and poor petrol consumption almost like the rev limiter cuts in. the car went into my local Fiat dealer who have been very good diagnosted a clutch pedal position sensor which was replaced all was ok for a week, the problem has reoccurred not as bad but is back, contacted Fiat customer services who gave the usual robotic answer that fiat technical are looking into the problem I made them aware that the problem is not just a one off and there are a number of cars with the same issue and was told that they customer services could no longer do any more at this stage I was given the postal address of Fiat uk and advised to write to the c.e.o and complain current milage 7520.I do own another 2006 panda which is trouble free and goes like a pocket rocket letter posted

just got a reply from fiat uk they are contacting all the dealers across europe to see if any other dealers/owners have had issues with the the power loss and will keep me updated on a by- monthly basis as to a resolution to the problem [ in other words they haven;t got a clue] the dealer is getting me a lone car to use at Fiats cost as he is fed up with no responce from fiat[ he has another panda with the same problem, anybody else want to team up an complain the more the better the more pressure the quicker the action from Fiat.

I've had the same email :

Just got off the phone with Fiat Uk customer services tonight , explained that we had bought three Panda My Lifes within the Family, all in the month of March and they all have the same fault.

If anyone else has this issue I urge you to contact your dealer and get the issue logged with them and Fiat UK customer services.

The fault is very repeatable and potentially dangerous, I have tried to convey the urgency and more importantly get them to pass on this to the powers that be.

on speaking to the dealer tonight there are more cars with this problem at least 14 + in the Pboro wisbeach lincoln area and Fiat are aware of the problem, don,t have a fix so unless we all get together this will keep going, our warranty going down and we will be lumbered I would suggest we contact the department of transport and make them aware of the issue push for a recall that way we have greater clout I am prepared to do the contacting in any case but need ammo to feed the gun if you get me what are your thoughts the more we make ourselves a thorn in the side the greater the action from Fiat

We have two Fiat Panda 1200's, 2012 models. One is not easy to pull away in and the other has the flat spot in first gear, i tried disconnecting the battery, leaving it overnight then reconnecting and trying again in the morning. I started the car up and let it reach running temperature before driving away, i thought bravo, the problem has gone, but guess what, returned to the car an hour later and the fault had come back.

FIAT LOCAL DEALER HAD MY CAR IN FOR A WEEK RECONFIGURED THE ECU/MAPPED ETC
fIAT TECHNICAL CAME TO THE GARAGE THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN FIXED SO FAR SO GOOD NOW A HAPPY PANDA OWNER

I was wondering if anyone had found a way around the kangarooing problem. I have recently bought a one year old Mylife with 12,000 miles on the clock. I had read this thread before I test drove the car and it was fine then as I made a point of trying to cause the problem and the car was stone cold. Since then I have had the local Fiat dealer remap the ECU but it has not made any noticeable difference. My car only kangaroos when it is cold and it is definitely related to the accelerator.

All the best

Peter

Hi
I have a panda 1.1 eco active 2009 model from new. I have had the same problem continually since the car was 6 months old. the dealer replaced the throttle body twice under FIAT warranty but then told me I was not covered under the second year dealer warranty as they did not cover electrical faults. I got angry with them in the showroom and the technician said he thought it was a wiring loom fault. I have just put up with the intermittent fault but feel I would like to have it solved. Surely FIAT must have some idea of what is causing this but I dont seem to be able to find any info from them. Can anyone help.

As mentioned before, my car has/had the cold kangaroo problem in first gear only. I also have/had the issue where the engine cuts out briefly when accelerating hard in first.

However I've just taken the car for a service and mentioned these issues to the dealer. They seemed well aware of the problem and said that there was a software update available for it.

Just driven home, car seems ok so far. I'll have to let it cool overnight to see if the kangaroo has been banished. I will also perform some thorough testing tomorrow... fingers crossed the problems are much reduced if not banished altogether (every car seems different though on here!)

Cheers.

There's a slight fluctuation still in the revs when cold, when you first press the accelerator, but the kangaroos do seem to have been banished :) . Also the engine cut in first gear / hard acceleration also seems to have gone. So, many thanks to BV Rees for applying the update (and knowing about it!). Looks like Fiat MIGHT have finally got this one sorted?

Cheers.

Hi, l've got a mylife that has the same running faults as yours.
The mpg is very good so before i have a software update has your update caused any loss of mpg and has it solved the running faults
Many thanks

I only drove a few miles in my car before I had the ECU remapped so I cannot compare MPG before to after. Your MPG is very good though I average about 47mpg, measured over about 2,500 miles. I concluded that the kangarooing when the car is cold seems to be more down to how I hold my foot, the car's other driver does not have the same problem. The one thing I still have is that sometimes when I accelerate quite hard in first the engine cuts out but restarts as soon as do something like change up. I have decided to live with this for now as it only happens occasionally and I can get the dealer to check it out at it's next service.

All the best

Peter

Well, I`ve had my car coming up to 3years and it has 16,000 miles on the clock.

The problem has all but disappeared now ;)

I notice now that the 1st gear is quite sensitive to the clutch and have adjusted the way I drive to compensate, but the engine is now considerably "looser" and more responsive, maybe it just needed wearing in.

Gotta say, I`m really loving the car more & more ;)

Both of my Euro 4 spec 1.2 Pandas run/ran like crap. Especially when cold, the 2nd, newer one being the worst for it. Both would 'jolt' twice when I came off the throttle, probably not enough for a passenger to notice but I could feel it as driver, when engine was both hot and cold. By the 2nd one I owned I assumed they were all like that and it was poor engine mounts or something and a bit of driveline shunt (I used to own a 1.4 Rover 45 - a car with poor engine mounts that was impossible to drive smoothly in traffic but they were all like that).

2nd Panda would crank for a long time randomly, and it got worse until very recently when I had the codes read and camshaft sensor replaced, but it still does it now and then though not as much... still irritating though.

The jolting has gone away but the car still kangaroos when in 2nd gear when cold, either when driving slowly through a car park or turning right at a junction and coming off the throttle to come to a stop for oncoming traffic. Sometimes it kangaroos when I'm not expecting it and vice versa. My mk2 Punto never did this, does anyone else's do the same? I've thrown time and money at the problem and it's wearing me down. I just have to ignore it now!

It's a shame as I like driving it when it's on form but I regularly get the urge to part ex the thing and buy a Honda or something. BTW 1st Panda was a 05 and this one is a 58 plate.

Hi everyone, new member, first brand new car, fiat panda pop, euro 6 engine, this is the worst car I have ever driven,Ive had a skoda estelle that was easier to drive, hill starts are a joke, either stalling or screaming engine, its like flicking a switch, lumpy running, cutting out at low speeds,Im afraid to use it now, pulling out of junctions is a nightmare,I took it to my local fiat dealer, who kept it for a day, when I collected the car,I was told no fault was found,I got in the car, same fault presented itself, took it back to the dealer, and told them I wanted a technichan to come out with me to test it,took it to a hill gave him the car and told him to start off,he stalled the car three times on the hill,he then said, yes it seems to have a fault, but thats how they are, what a load of c**p,the service and the car,one unhappy customer.I am going to take this further, this car is not fit for purpose, when I asked if I have an accident, owing to not being in full control of the car, would fiat be responsible, they said no,it would be my fault, this car is an accident waiting to happen, rant over, but not the fight, mandy.

I got mine (61reg) with about 6000 miles on it. I have never notice any flat spots on acceleration but, as racing engines in low gear is not good practice, the ecu may have a self defence mechanism built in.
I do get the kangaroo effect at times, which I have put down to me and the clutch movement sensor not always being in agreement. I also sometimes wonder if the electric throttle always moves exactly with the foot pedal

Hello and welcome to the forum . Sorry to hear you're suffering from this all-too common issue which has affected too many Euro6 1.2 owners for too long.

You might want to take a look at this thread in the 500 section - the Euro 6 1.2 500 & Panda have the same engine and are both affected by this issue.

Have you seen the Watchdog report?

Keep pestering your dealer; it's now a well known issue and there will no doubt be a software update at some point.

There is hope on the horizon; some, but by no means all, 1.2 Eu6 500's have been updated and the update is reported to cure the issue completely.

Hi everyone, just an update from fiat,They told me that I was the first one to complain to fiat, about this fault, but I should take the car back to a fiat dealer, and ask to go out with the chief technician,in order that he can asses my driving technique, and then show me how to drive the car,let me add, that I drive everyday for the police,at least once a month,I drive a brand new vehicle,I drive hgv, patrol cars, vans etc,and I have driven in the army as a tank transporter driver,I have a class 1 HGV,class 1 PSV,advanced motorbike license, and I have never driven a vehicle like this, except when it is faulty,I shall be going back to my nearest fiat dealer, and as before,I will take the technician out,and he can show me that he can drive this car, from a standing hill start, without stalling,if he can,I will then take lessons from him, lol.

Just got back from Spain having hired a brand new 500 Euro 6. We drove it for 550 miles throughout the week and had some serious hills/hairpins.

I was expecting the worse, but it drove perfectly (to be honest rather surprisingly and better than our Euro 5 Panda). They MUST have fixed this issue cos I would have noticed, as I'm notoriously lazy on the throttle when setting off on hills.

FIAT should be ashamed.

I love it! Enjoy your driving lesson. Maybe they'll teach you how to do handbrake turns and doughnuts too. :ROFLMAO:
