Tuning Panda 100HP, turbo or not to turbo?

Personally I wouldnt bother and just buy a faster car. Its not only the expense you have to think about but the reliability issues too. Everything has to be uprated to cope like clutches and drive shafts and all the bushes and bolts inbetween. Far easier and less hassle to buy something thats been designed for the power from the ground up. If you want to beat your friend with the Abarth 500 then buy an Abarth 500. Remember you will be spending a lot of money just to get to his level. If you do get there he will laugh in your face as he can spend that amount of money to tune his Abarth and get to a level you cant reach.

The above is understandable, but

The cost of a abarth 500 vs the cost of a 100hp and turbo arrangement would be pretty similar, if not the panda being cheaper, unique and just as reliable if completed correctly.

My example that makes people laugh was with my clio it cost 16k I spent about 3k tuning it, and had a race with a F430 soft top, the owner couldn't believe how quick the clio was and didn't understand why his car wasn't quicker.

Tuning all comes down to how effectively you spend your money.

Thanks for posting the youtubes on the turbo conversion on the 100HP - it all looks very neat when it's compared with the JCR S/C arrangement on a F500. With turbocharging the 100HP how does the standard 6 speed gearbox cope with the increased torque or does the clutch go before the gearbox suffers ? Limits on the 6 speed IIRC is around 150Nm whilst on a A500 it's 201Nm. Even at that in Sport mode the A500 is running 206Nm (standard normal mode is 187Nm at a lower 2,500rpm) - that's running around 0.9bar. At 1.2 bar it's producing 230Nm+ which equates to 160bhp. Really can't see the 6 speed gearbox lasting at these bhp figures if you're getting them.

If you have unlimited money, time and lots of space then what the hell go for it. I have been to plenty of car shows and really liked some of the crazy modified cars ive seen. So if you can do it then go for it. But as I said personally I wouldnt bother because the expense just isnt worth it. And for me having somthing unique is totally overated. I'm also not convinced that a heavily modified 100HP would be that reliable and I need a reliable car. Thats why I bought a brand new car in the first place. If you can do it yourself then you will save loads of cash. But if you have to pay a garage then it would be much cheaper in the long run just to buy an Abarth 500. I am looking at buying one next year and although they hold their prices they arent that expensive. And although I like the 100HP even with a turbo its not exactly kick ass is it. Neither is the Abarth 500 for that matter. Both cars arent that quick compared to most other hot hatches out there. If you are spending serious cash on performance modifications then you need a serious car. Theres a lot of great second hand performance cars out there. And if you can spend serious cash on a 100HP you can certainly afford to buy and run one of those.
