Blaupunkt Stereo in Panda on the blink...

Hi everyone,

My stereo system in the Panda is having some issues, the screen hardly comes up and it just generally acts like a virus has infected the thing. Can i fix it?

How easy is it to install a new stereo? With the double din plate? I am a complete newbie to this stuff...

Any help would be good,

Thanks

Re: Blaupunkt Stereo in Panda on the blink...

Realistically you are unlikely to be able to repair the stereo. It is however very easy to fit an aftermarket stereo. If you have a Panda Dynamic you will have the double DIN Blaupunkt stereo so you can elect to install a double DIN unit with a nice big screen or alternatively fit a single DIN unit and use a "fascia adapter". These are widely available but the aftermarket ones are awful and don't tend to fit properly. Your Fiat dealer can supply a proper one but they are about 40 (worth it in my opinion).

The Panda has so called ISO connectors so a new radio is pretty much plug and play. For some car stereos you might need to buy an aerial adapter as there are two different aerial connector styles that are commonly used. You should have a search around the ICE section of the forum - there is some good information on there.

Go for a Double Din as you get a whole 7" touch screen into the area. makes everything so easy to control & you can hook up your Ipod, watch films etc.

It'll work but better off with the ones like the OEM ones with the cd player below the tray.

Re: Blaupunkt Stereo in Panda on the blink...

I have an original OEM Panda radio/CD Player that came out of my 2006 4x4. I replaced it with a single DIN Sony unit as I wanted easy connection for iPhone and Handsfree Bluetooth etc etc.

You're welcome to it for a medium fee (50?), but I think it would need someone to do their 2 minute magic on it to remove the CANCHECK facility where the unit looks to make sure it's still connected to the original chassis. Various folks on eBAY advertise the CANCHECK fix.

At least that's what I understand CANCHECK to be.

Hi, thanks for the offer but the guy i bought the car from owes me a CD Player because of the fault, but I just wanted to find out if I could salvage mine to save the hassle.

How easy was it to put a single din and the sony in? You take the blaupunkt out and fit the panel? The head unit needs to come out or? Basically I have no idea...

It's dead simple. Buy a decent quality Single DIN plate (with which you get a handy cubby hole too), chop a wire coathanger apart so you have four L-shaped bits and use these as keys to remove the standard headunit. Coathangers are almost the perfect size and as you push them through the four small holes you can see in the unit, they release each of the internal clips. Then gently prise the unit out with something suitable (taking care not to damage the dash) and it will pop out into your lap.

Disconnect the main connector/Fiat adapter plug and the ISO bit will be left attached to the main wiring loom. Fit the new plate, pull the ISO out through the slot and connect to new unit, hook up aerial and then push back in. Simples.
