Hi

I changed my girlfriends 07 multijet oil filter earlier today. I fitted the new one which went in, but seems the wrong one as it does not seat too well. The one I fitted had a series of plastic tangs in a circle on one end, but there is nothing on the housing or cover for them to fit into. The old one got taken by by the bin man so I cannot check back, so I am stuck!

It appears that there are two types, but how do I know which one I need and how do I order it(what is it called/known as!)

Thank you for your help.

Nigel

I now have some more info. There is a filter that fits "over" ???174(the one I had and now have) and two that fit inside ???192 and ???211(the type I need) What is the difference between the two inner fitting filters that have these numbers?

Thank you again

Nigel

There's two suppliers of the oil filter housings (to Fiat) with slightly different filter designs and no way to tell which is fitted. Hence why suppliers will usually supply both and get you to return the one you don't need.

On one the filter clips into the cap, on the other the filter has a centre locating shaft at the bottom which holds it in the lower housing.

First rule of fitting new parts- make sure it's the same as the original before throwing the old one away. ;)

O Danny Boy!

There is more to the tale, so I edited it to make it shorter and understandable.

Back to the problem. I have now tried the "push in" types(192 and 211) for which there is no way to make them fit.

The "push over" (type 174) that I have has clips that appear to made to clip onto the housing cap as you say........except that they are too large in diameter and do not fit over the cap correctly, making them redundent!. The length of the filter that is clamped between the housing and cap is approximately the correct length(difficult to measure) so it appears to be the correct one-sort of! It is worrying as it appears that the filter system depends entirely on the clamping of the filter to ensure a good seal(and as a result filtering) as there are no sealing rings fitted. I want to ensure that I fit the correct one as there is so much at stake.

Any more help wil be greatfully accepted.

I have recently renewed the oil filter in my wifes 06 multijet. The filter is the shorter one with the circle of plastic tangs on the top. The Fiat part no is 0073500049. I hope this helps. I did not recognise any of the part nos you quoted. Are you using genuine Fiat parts, or pattern parts?

Just after I got my MY, I was supplied with the wrong type, had to let the local fitters charge me £12 + VAT:mad: for one.

Mine is a '55 reg and the one with the 'tangs' on it is the purflux type:

http://www.shop4parts.co.uk/?name=store&op=Details&ProdID=1103&sku=3396

The one I needed is the UFI type. It has what looks like a nozzle onthe end as here:

http://www.shop4parts.co.uk/?name=store&op=Details&ProdID=2359&sku=6288

I'm not recommending that you buy them from shop4parts, there are cheaper places, but they have very good pictures of both types.

hi
i know this tread is old i hope someone can answer.
i bought a fiat panda 1.3 multijet your 2005. i want to service the car. is there a way of knowing if the oil filter and fuel filter are a purflux or UFI ? the shop online says there 2 so they dont know which. also there are so many air filter online. please can someone help and tell me which oil, fuel and air filter to buy.
thanks

When I had the Punto Mk2 HGT, I had very good service from Shop4Parts. It was not a common car but they knew exactly what parts I would need.

Euro Car Parts are not necessarily the lowest cost. I needed a front ABS sensor for the Renault. Near enough £50 from ECP or £20 delivered via an eBay seller. Presumably I got a pattern part but I could tell no difference from the replaced OEM sensor (except it worked).
