Okay, got the opportunity to look at the In-law's Cortico in Southern Spain near Mojacar.

I decided that we'd have a hire car. Turned out it was a 2005 Panda dynamic with aircon.

Looking at the documentation, it said it was 1305cc. I didn't think there was a 1.3? Thought it was a 1.2, odd!

Lovely(!) blue interior that ended up stained after an over zealous bit of paddling in the med, resulted in us all driving back with soaking wet clothes on!

Mileage was 117,000 kms.

This is the first time I've driven a left hooker with manual gears. Turned out not to be that hard and to be fair after a day or so I was fine with it. My Fiance opted not to drive so in 3 days I managed about 400kms.

Car was fine really, but obviously lacking in power (4th gear needed on motorway inclines). Usual roly poly suspension, but having said that was good for covering dirt tracks at considerable speed. :p

I even gave a local a run for his money down the Coba de Gata (coastal roads in the mountains) though I had to hammer it round the corners to make up for what I lost on the straights and it was mostly dead steep with hairpins!

Still all good fun!

Cable clutch if you can see it:

Not amazingly interesting I know but did make me chuckle when the hire girl said 'will the Panda do?' and I thought you lot would like it. :p

There is no 1.3 (the multijet at 1248cc is actually only 6cc larger than the 1.2 petrol), but it's not the first time a car hire company has gotten something wrong :p

Yep, standard ancient 8 valve(!).

Clutch is easier to feel because it's cable. Not any heavier that I noticed. It's been years since I've driven a car with a cable clutch.

I definitely prefer the cable clutch in my Panda to every hydraulic clutch I have ever tried, there's so much more feedback from it.

Though I guess you have to go hydraulic once your clutch requires more than a certain spring pressure if you don't want a ridiculously long pedal travel or extremely hard pedal.

I think it's just the case that a hydraulic clutch is easier to package than anything else.

Cable clutches though are a PITA when they snap. Mind you so is a leaky slave cylinder on a hydraulic clutch!

It seems that pretty much all cars have hydraulic clutches thesedays. All my old Toyotas including my current car have had hydraulic clutches.

Agree about the feedback with a cable, perhaps its just our LHD Panda that had a slightly heavier clutch.

Like you say most are hydraulic these days though. :(
