Hi searched countless threads and not found a definitive answer I have an 1.2 Eleganza Auto on 14" Wheels current set up is 165/65 R14 79T l am looking at winter tyres on steel rims complete, now the hard bit. looking at mytyres site I am given the option
  1. 1691242cm 44kw 09.2003.4 Hole steel wheel
    [*]1691242cm 51kw 09.2003.4 Hole steel wheel
I assume this is for correct line up for wheels bolts/nuts., which is the the correct one?

Is any one with the same car as me running winter tyre this year, and what are you using.

I have seen lots of threads for 100H, panda cross, multijet, etc but not mine.

Looking at Vredestein SNOWTRAC 3 165/70 R14 81T M+S marking @ mytyres @ £108.00 each. Only issue besides 44kw or 51kw is they jump up from 79T to 81T and I do not understand the difference.

Sorry if this is confusing, but it is confusing me.:confused:

I may be wrong but AFAIK the 1.2 has a 44kw ENGINE and the mutijet is 51kw so i doubt if this is what it refers to the wheels will be any different (the 1.1 only has 39kw :( ) but would say the 44kw is what you want. Im sure someone more knowledgable than myself will be along soon.

As for the 79T vs 81T, T is the speed rating (up to 118mph) of the tyre where as the number indicates the maximum load each tyre is designed for . 79 = 437kg wheras 81 = 462. See

Both are equally fine, all Pandas can use the exact same wheel, the only exception is that the 100HP can't use 13" because of the bigger brakes. Other than that, if it fits one, it fits them all! (y)

Just for accuracy, I believe the 4x4 and Cross can't use 13" wheels either, as these models also have larger disc brakes fitted.

Yes, 44kW is the 60bhp petrol (1.2) and 51kW is 70bhp multijet diesel.

The difference in the 'load index' won't be an issue, as the total permitted weight of a 1.2 Panda (the car itself plus anything carried in/on it) shouldn't exceed 1305kg, which if shared between the four wheels gives just 326kg per wheel, well inside either of those ratings.
 
Ordered a set of Snowtrac's yesterday from Mytyres for £45 each.
I'm sure they were only £40 on Monday. Bah.

Buy 'em now. They won't be getting any cheaper.
 
I've two new WinterContacts in the garage for when I change over... I put two new ones on last year and kept two over to the side as there was still 4mm on one pair...

I'm going to hold onto one of the old tyres in the hope that I might be able to pick up a 13" steely somewhere (to use in emergency as a spare). Local scrappy never seems to have any Pandas though...
 
2001-2006ish 1.2 Punto's use the same wheels, if that's any help...

The steel wheels I got from eBay actually came from a Punto but are identical size to the Panda ones (5.5J, 35mm offset, etc). Edit: Ah ha - just re-read and see Wee Smurf is looking for 13 inch wheels... Punto (and 4x4) are 14"

I can understand wanting a set of steel wheels in the winter if you have alloys, but if your Panda is on steels anyway, why not just swap the tyres over.

My local fitter will swap the tyres and store them for £30.
(If you buy the tyres from them, first fit is all in the price anyway)
This is twice a year, so it works out at £60 a year.

How much is a steel wheel?
Times that by 4.
Add dirty hands, brake dust on your 501's and the hassle of trying to get the jack in and out of that plastic holder in the wheel well (it came out, it must go back in surely??)

And there's no hassle with storing them, especially if you live in a flat on the 1501st floor on Nelson Mandela House!
(the Mrs has gone off the idea of sleeping in a room full of car parts since she stubbed her toe on my Alfa's cylinder head under the bed!)

Yes, or Michelin Alpin or Continental WinterContact or Dunlop Winter Response or Goodyear Ultragrip 8 or Semperit Master-Grip. They've all scored better than the Vredesteins in tests.

It's always good to have a range of tyres to choose from (y)

Just remember that the load isn't shared equally and if you're braking then there's a lot of extra load on those front wheels. Always go for whatever the handbook says it needs.

I am the Mrs in my house lol.

I already have a full set of steelies and alloys, and have no storage issues as you could fit 2 estates in our garage lol. I just think it would be safer if in the event of having a flat, I could put another Winter tyre on instead of the space saver as there would be less difference in grip. Dealer will charge just over £90 for a steel wheel, so I'm just looking for a second hand one as the spare. I tried placing a wanted ad but for some strange reason despite ticking the don't display my telephone number option, it did so I pulled the ad off again.

Used steelies £80 for 4 - or £40 a time to swap tyres which equates to £80 a year anyway? do that for 4 years and your £240 down.
 
Yes. I've got 4 already (original set that came on the car as I bought the alloys a year later). I always intended to have two sets of wheels one for summer and one for winter. Just looking one as a winter spare instead of the space-saver. I'm putting new winter tyres on and was going to keep the best of the old ones for the spare. Reckon it would be safer in emergency with a part worn winter with 3 other good winters, than a summer space saver and 3 winters, if you know what I mean? More even grip.
