Hi guys, picked up my climbing today. Have been reading up on it, and about the 4wd drive system and how it only activates the rear diff when the fronts start to lose traction. So imagine my surprise to see a permenant four wheel drive sticker on the door. I take it someone has stuck one on for a laugh ?

Cheers steve

It is a permanent 4WD system, in that it cannot be turned off by the driver and 4WD is permanently available when required.
Drive to the prop shaft to the rear wheels is always engaged. When the front wheels start to lose traction, a viscous coupling engages and drive is provided from the prop shaft to the rear diff.
The alternative is a selectable 4WD system where the driver selects drive to, normally, the rear wheels, in addition to the normal drive to the front wheels. This can be achieved mechanically by an additional gear lever operating a transfer box or through various electronically switched systems.

Likewise - I picked up a 16k miles 55 reg. Climbing Panda with tow pack and a/c 3 weeks ago (or PandRover as its affectionately called at home now as its replaced our 20 year old Discovery - I know, quite a different animal). I find it fun and different and am quite fond of it already. I've had a Fiat Bronze service and check over and all they found were the exhaust has a few weeks until it starts blowing, and the front disks are corroded (so I've ordered a new set of discs and pads I will fit myself at the w/e), and will change the exhaust for £115 new one at Formula 1 Autocentre they quoted me, when it needs it). Oh and I will probably do the timing belt for piece of mind in the next few weeks/month. enjoy yours

16k ! 82k for me ! Also the exhuast is knocking on something so will have to have a look at that. I know what you mean about a different animal, im coming from a lancer evo. I think I should do the timing belt also.

Tow pack

I assume that it's a sunroof and a TOW missile launcher mounted on the roof.

Very Funny :) - Tow pack was the Fiat supplied Westfalia removable bar - that I was lucky was fitted from new but not used - it will come in handy for towing my box and bike trailers in future (although I'm not sure if the Pandy will be quote upto launching and recovering the boat - but I will report back on that if it is in future)

Tow pack - Disco Owners speak. Order your new Land Rover with a Tow Pack.

What MPG are you getting from your 4x4?

some pictures of mine.

Ah, i remember that car. It was the one that jonnyboiy was selling in the classifieds last year.

Did a nice job of fixing the roof after he rolled it on the beach!!

I am of course only joking.
Apologies if there is actually a member on here called jonnyboi.

The car looks lovely. :)

I've been wanting a 4x4 for the last 4 years and never taken the plunge.
Should have bought one 3 years ago when they were cheap.

One day a 4x4 will be mine!!

Silver Car looks nice. "Tow Pack" is indeed Landy speak not Pandy speak.

If I do find I can 'launch' a 14' dinghy with it - I will be tempted to make a front ball hitch for it as launching boats is easier from the front.

I've just got a semi-rotten exhaust to replace, new front discs and pads to do, next w/e and should get my age-related timing belt done and its all ready to use regularly then. I'd also like a 2nd set of winter wheels/tyres but I think even the Bridgestone Dualler's that come on it as standard look pretty capable (ironically I was running those on the Land Rover and they were fine in snow too).

I don't really miss the heavy old Discovery either - Panda is more fun and frugal (although I don't actually know what its returning MPG wise yet, but once I sort the exhaust I will start recording what goes in and what comes out of it properly).

don't know whats so funny I have a tow bar on my panda cross 4x4 recently towed my little caravan Hamish with no trouble at all. I would post a piccy but have no picture of them hitched up only side by side on site.

Don't think anyone already said this, but the stickers on the rear doors (both sides) were Fiat originals, along with '4x4' on the kick plates inside the front doors. On mine when I got it, some bright spark had peeled off the word 'drive' on one side door, so it just stated 'Permanent 4 wheel' :)
Them little stickers never liked it when the pressure washer was pointed at them and used in anger!
