Hi all,

new member here, owned a 2006 1.2 Dynamic with a/c since new.

Currently have a problem with the air con. Recently it seemed to be getting cool rather than cold - not a sudden thing, just getting a bit less efficient over time. It had never been touched since the car was new (nearly 5 years).

Had it regassed at a local high street place and now it loses gas to the point where the compressor won't kick in after about 4 weeks. Took it back to where the job was done, they gassed it up but now its happened again.

There seems to be some misting under one of the port caps, not sure whether its input/output line. If I wipe it away it comes back quickly. Is this normal?

This photo shows the possible culprit circled (faintly) in red:

Has the place that regassed the system made an error? Or is it more likely a seal or similar that just didn't like being interfered with?

Many thanks for any help :)

Take it back. Anyone who regasses a system which is rapidly losing refrigerant is a major bellend, it needs to go back in, be regassed with a die put in so they can see where it's leaking from. Tbh I wouldn't take it back to the same place as they seem incompetent.

Thanks for the replies. Just a little bemused that it was fine for 5 years, now after a re-gas its not....

It is possible that the valve is leaking but they don't normally go from experience.

As Maxi has said get the system leak checked with a dye.

When you wipe the residue off is it orange / yellow on the tissue?

Looks a bit orangey to me, almost like very clean engine oil!

Thanks very much for the replies, much appreciated.

Think I'll go back again and ask for the dye test. They were reluctant to do anything last time so it will probably end up going elsewhere :bang:

Have the same problem since yesterday. The compressor doesn't kick in. The mechanic checked if there is any AC fluid, by pressing the valve (not the one in the circle, the other with the tag). The circuit is completely EMPTY!!!!
Can;t understand how this happened. It was working fine during summer.
Tomorrow they will refill it using an fluid with phosphorus and try to find the leak with UV light.
Any ideas, where could this leak usually be?

Well, better late than never to bring this to a close.

Problem turned out to be a holed condenser. New one = nice cold air. Car sadly traded in since, but the a/c worked well!
