I wonder what this obsession is with 0-60 times? i would have thought that it would be "MPG" the way fuel prices are going?. If fuel gets any more expensive people will be walking more.

Re: 100hp 0-60 Times?

I'd say Fiat is spot on with that figure. You have to rag the pants off the 100hp get to 60 in 9.5 seconds as it is. It is not a fast car, just a nippy car.

Owners of diddy cars need to learn some perspective (as the guy in the 'fast' S2000 found out today when trying to keep up with the T350 'on song' ). Get a mate with a properly fast car to go for a drive out with you trying to follow :-)

Yes your right MPG is important on a day to day basis...
But was just putting the question out there to see what people have done? With owners using different tyres giving better grip to pull away id of thought a time under 9 seconds would be realistic..

Re: 100hp 0-60 Times?

None of the magazines, tv shows or other testers have done lower times than the official figures, but on dry and hot tarmac it's possible to do just about the 9,5 secs. That's my impression at least, and I read and watch a lot of tests. But I don't get the obsession with these figures, a good driver can get a FIAT Uno quicker to 62 mph than a bad one in a BMW 320. Personally I drive as economic as possible on the streets, and then I'm going to take it to trackdays for fun, so the 0 - 62 mph is really indifferent to me...

Re: 100hp 0-60 Times?

tyres make little difference on a light lowish power car. the official figures are made with a very fresh car, with all the factory tweeks and then the actual test is brutal.

The gear changes will be made virtually clutchless at full throttle, with absolutely no sympathy.

I would be surprised if most people break 10s in their own cars.

Re: 100hp 0-60 Times?

You seem to have forgotten that speedo's over read, there is a reaction time between the car starting to move and the speedo needle moving .... and also that when played back, most cameras play back ever so slightly faster than real life.

The next time someone posts one of these videos as proof of how fast their car can accelerate I'm going to scream!

Re: 100hp 0-60 Times?

I reckon Fiats claimed time of 9.5 seconds is spot on. The 100HP picks up quickly but dies off above 30 or 40. The secret behind the 100HP's fun isnt about the figures though. Its about the fact that its a small chuckable car that makes you feel like you are going much faster than you actually are.

Re: 100hp 0-60 Times?

I think most car manufactures test their 0-60 and all the other tests with a full tank of fuel and max people on board, and also it'll be a very tight engine.

Me and a mate had a play about with his Vbox a while ago and with 2 people in the car and a boot full of crap we got around an average of 8.7, so taking inconsideration the extra weight I don't think the video is too far out, obviously it's not accurate but it's not a million miles out

Re: 100hp 0-60 Times?

Thought it was always the case that manufacturers put in as little fuel as possible, crash the gearchanges and ensure that the car is in 'optimal' condition. I've never, ever heard of any tests where they are four up and with a full tank of fuel.

I honestly think the stock figures are about right. It's got a 100hp, weighs around 975kg, that ought to equate to a 0-60 of around the time specified.
Thanks nathan240 thanked for this post
