which does indeed generate figures close to that claimed by FIAT.

Of course, it also depends on how you're measuring your speed. If you use the car speedo, your figures will likely be 5-10% optimistic.

Got an SPA motorsport speedo on my classic Panda that times for you the moment it detects wheel movement up to any speed and is about the only way I would trust a timing done in-car by the driver as is doesn't depend on you to do anything other than calibrate the speedo as accurately as you can in the first place. Best 0-60 I have had on a road with road tyres is 7.2. That calculator thing at torquestats.com reckons 7.3, so pretty impressed with the accuracy there!

I suppose the obsession with 0-60 comes because it is the way everyone knows to compare the traffic light grandprix speed of one car against another at the pub.

I would love to have seen your classic Panda do that type of smoking start from lights against some 3-Series hopeful..... I do love a good Q-Car!
