Yeah I need to decide what to do, the CD player actually sounds quite good (ten times better than the Punto MK1 for example) and because of the crap speakers I don't think I will get any sonic benefits in upgrading the head unit, but I really could do with that aux input.

My finance agreement says I am not allowed to modify the car in anyway but I plan to keep it for ever anyway and if I do hand it back I can put the original unit back in it.

How easy would it be to change? I may get a garage to do it.

Dude, you dont need to worry about the headunit being changed and the insurance/finance agreement being affected. Thats such a "minor" modification it not even frowned upon. Good idea to keep the old headunit just incase though but still nothing to worry about.

It really is easy to change the headunit, you'll need the "release keys" for the stereo. These cost around £3-5 at auto store

Once you do this you unclip the "iso connect" cable behind it, usually a push down clip and jiggle it out.

the new stereo will have the same "iso connector" to accept the fiat one. Just reconnect and then clip it in, if not then youll have to go to halfords and buy an adaptor.

Plug it on and push it till it clips....Job done :D

Or just pay someone to do it for like £15

Panda 100hp speaker upgrade, EQ level and sound quality.

So after playing with the EQ settings on the car, setting the subwoofer to 100hz on the cross over.

Bass @ 0
Treble @ 1
Balance @ -1

My car sounds brilliant :) and thats not just my opinion but everyone who sits in my panda for the first time and suddenly hears the music! Clear, pleasant and the bass is felt through the car and in your body.

Whats even better is the volume doesnt have to be high to get a nice controlled volume with clear sound and no distortion.

Very chuffed and always look forward to taking my 100hp for its daily drive.:D

You definately need a subwoofer of some sort to help the mids and tweets, theyjust dont produce the lower frequencies needed to complete the overall sound.

As mentioned above, the HU is dead easy to change, due in the main to the (sensible) adoption of ISO connectors. I went for a medium priced Sony (Sony MEX-BT3700U) from Halfords and it was on special at about £160. This unit is superb and has more connectivity than you could ever want - 3.5mm audio-jack, USB, but best of all, proper A2DP Bluetooth streaming (which includes a full handsfree phone function too, using the car speakers and a microphone either built into the unit, or an external to improve location).

The streaming BT means that I simply hit Play on my iPhone and all my music collection is available in full-range clarity.

I ar$ed around for months trying all the Blaupunkt connectors available, in an attempt to hook up a 3.5mm jack for music input, but to no avail. Whilst my Fiat unit was 'supposed' to have AUX available, it didn't (press CD twice to bring up AUX, if it is enabled), which meant I was going nowhere. Bought the Sony and it's job done...!

No cabling under the seat. You'll need to fit it yourself.

Greetings, nebie here so be gentile :-o quick question...kinda, I know its an old post not sure where to post or who to ask but here it goes. I have on 04 169 open sky automatic, with 6 speakers, 2 tweets & 4woofs and a OE subwoofer under the pas angers seat (LHD) its all ok but I've upgraded the all speakers plus adding 2 more tweed for the back, but now I want to keep the factory subwoofer but just change out the woofer, so which brand of speakers would be best to fit in the OE subwoofer box. Has anyone ever attempted to do this? or should i just buck it up and instal my low profile under seat pioneer subwoofer subwoofer forms my Asia towner ;-) either way I'm sure it would involve work :-D Thanks Eddie

I think all you can do is change your head unit really.

I've never heard of changing your head unit affecting insurance. I've changed head units on many cars I've owned. Never considered it anything to do with insurance really.

Theft gets more likely if its a desirable unit so I can see why insurance would be concerned.

I would be looking at adding more sound proofing and replacing noisy wheel bearings as background and road noise will drown out the low frequencies.

I use a pretty basic 5.1 speaker system on the TV. The bass effect was a dramatic improvement. So if you already have a subwoofer try that before spending money.
