As the standard tyres look quite narrow & I want to add wider tyres.

What's biggest size I can fit on the standard wheels.?

What is the widest tyre size the 100BHP can take e.g. 195/45/15 or 205/40/16..?

Wider tyres make cars more exiciting to drive and feel safer :)

Not on that car they won't. They will be heavier reducing performance and fuel economy. Increasing unsprung weight will cause problems with the standard spring rates too meaning it will ride like crap.

Not worth it IMHO

Wide tyres without altering the suspension etc will give you a lot less grip in the damp/wet but in dry conditions wont be that much better than your standard tyres. altering the tyres or the rim sizes on standard cars are dangerous they alter how the car handles and could invalidate your insurance...

First thing chavs do is to put big wheels on their cars without thinking ? cars dont handle the same and you have to tell your insurance that youve modified the car? people dont realise that and like you say "Increasing unsprung weight will cause problems with the standard spring rates" Why do they always think that putting a wider tyre makes a car corner better.

Erm, no they don't. They take away the excitement if anything. Yes I guess it can feel safer in that you will be pretty much always be driving well within the tyres grip limits, but the side effects are greater tramlining and a reduction in ride quality.

I've got 175/70 winter tyres on the standard 13" wheels right now because it was the only size I could get. They fit perfectly fine with no issues at all.

I wouldn't go any wider or larger than 185/60 on a 14" wheel for the non-4x4, non-100HP models. Even the 175/70 winter tyres have plenty of grip in the dry, it would be extremely hard to get to the edge of grip on a good set of 185-width summer tyres outside of winter conditions.

Dont forget to notify your insurance?

"AA Insurance Services says some people have been told to pay up to 20% more.

Winter tyres should be much safer in the snow, but some insurers have been counting them as a modification to the manufacturer's specifications."

(y)hi i had standard wheels on my 1.2 dynamic i wanted some alloys got some off a mk3 punto the off set was the same tyers 165/60/14 no problem in snow

sorry for got to say on the above note it did not affect my insurance:D

I think that the widest you can go on a normal Panda safely is 185’s.
The 100HP was apparently designed to take wider tyres, hence the larger turning circle and flared arches… so I read anyway! (y)

:confused:sorry got the tyre size wrong correct size is 185/60/14 and not 165/60/14

I think the larger turning circle is because of the 6-speed gearbox. I've seen 1.2 Pandas driving around with 100HP wheels and 195 width tyres, didn't seem to have any rubbing problems in carparks etc.

That's a whole lotta grip for a standard Panda, on a dry road and with a smooth touch, I had plenty of traction on the standard 155 width Ecocontacts, Having the 100HP-spec stuff on there must be like it's glued down.
