10 plate Panda Active Eco 1.1. I noticed the oil is half way on the tip so I need some more. I am very keen to put exactly the same oil is as the factory did so what do I need to buy?

My car has only done 630 miles, is it normal to need topping up so quickly? I don't think it was fully on max when new but it has gone down a bit, I suspect after the motorway run (most the 630 miles has been in the city).

Very contradictory when it comes to oil for the Panda on here there have been many arguments about it..the Eco is just that and they use a lower viscosity oil to get emissions down along with the tyres..so this is straight from fiats own web site and this should put a lot of argument to rest about which oil for which car..if it was a none Eco it would be easy..10w 40 simples but some still go on about using a 5w 40 ..what the f*ck do they know..enjoy the thread from fiat..

Dip is now in the middle, I don't think it was right at the top even when new.

Engines will use a little while bedding in..I know what I would do ..drain and refill and keep an eye on it I drained off the wifes at 1000 miles and I was amazed at the crap that came out..that info is totally down to you..(y)

Never changed oil before so I am not going to start on a brand new car :). I will just get the 10/40 stuff as suggested on the FIAT forum and keep an eye on things. I may save up a little and get the oil changed in three months time - e.g six months early.

The problem here though is you dont know what oil has been poured into your engine..oils should not be mixed and its a good rule to stick to..:)

I honestly don't see an issue with topping it up with oil of the correct spec.
:yeahthat:
The only time Fiat are funny about oil is with a DPF fitted Multijet.

FWIW my 1.1 barely used anything in it's first year. It was a little under half full at 14,000 miles where I topped it up a bit to make up for neglecting to get it serviced on time.

The manual says a lot of different kind of oils can be used with 10/40 being the recomended one. However my question really was exactly what oil is put in that factory so I can match it?

used to check my oil quite often up to about 3.5k but it never budged. topped it up at 6k before doin a 400 mile journey and used about 250ml of oil to bring it back up to the top level

and as for mixing different brands, i put in some brand name cant remember the exact one. cost a tenner from halfords for a 1L bottle
car hasnt come up with any warning lights and is running as before

and also if you think about it, your mixing oil when changing the oil cause there is still gonna be some old oil in the engine after the change

Thanks. I will probably just go to FIAT and ask them and get a receipt, that way if the engine blows up I have somebody to blame :).

At least I know I don't need to be worried about the exact brand as longs as it meets the specs on listed on that other thread.

I just hope there isn't a problem with the engine and it is simply just its running in process :).

Epic fail..... the proper Selenia oil is less than £10 for 1l.

Sure you're mixing oil when the oil gets changed, but it's the same grade of oil with the same additives if you go like for like.....

Seriously it really IS NOT crucial to put in the exact same oil. I guarrantee you your engine will not blow up because of this.

Seriously, don't worry about it!

Sure if you had an M3 then you'd be pretty strict about oil specs. I was with my old ITR, namely because it revved to 8500rpm. But on an ancient 8v engine (or even the 100hp engine) it really is not critical.

:yeahthat: = same oil same base.. same additives.. and same detergents and cleaners..= same oil.. and straight from the factor will be selenia..not Mobil not castrol :yuck: or A N Other..

SIMPLES..

Sorry to hijack but...what about the petrol 1.2 Eco? I remember reading that Ecos use a thinner oil and the low rolling resistance rubber to achieve the lower emissions...is that the 5W40 grade...? (although shop4parts reckon it is only for JTD engines) ? ?

Anyone have an exact part number ? :)

Read what fiat marketing say here..

1.1 and 1.2 would use the same oils..

Yes I had read that already before posing my question, perhaps I'm missing something...it is possible that the Fiat tech is just recommending the standard 1.2 oil and not the Eco...

...or was the thinner oil for 'Ecos' just marketing/target meeting 'spin' and once the cars have the first oil change they don't need to meet the 119grams emission target? 10w40 sounds fairly regular...not the thinner grade I was expecting...

I'd still like to use the correct grade as I don't want to harm the mpg figures :)
