Whilst driving my 2007 100hp, I can hear a squeal coming from the engine at certain rpms: approaching 3000rpm, between 3.5-4k rpm and at 4.5k rpm. At any other point their are no unusual noises. The car does not have to be warmed up for these to occur, but it does have to be moving (ie, nothing unusual can be heard when you rev the engine parked in neutral).

I am sure the noises do not occur when steering, nor when the fans/aircon are running. My partner has had a quick look at the drive belt, and can't see anything wrong.

The car has done just over 34,000 miles, has been regularly serviced and is well looked-after.

Before I take it to the garage to be inspected, has anyone on here had similar issues, or have any idea how to pin-point what might be wrong?

Thanks

Hiya, did you ever find out what the problem was here, i'm experiencing the same thing, no noise when reving, and also no noise when moving at speed with the clutch down, however when reving and moving there is a squeek...

Please let me know what the diagnosis was :)

Cheers

Owen

Unfortunately, I never got to the bottom of the problem. My partner thinks it may be something to do with the air conditioning unit, but with the engine compartment being as compact as it is, a detailed inspection is not easy. As the squeal is intermittent, I've learned to live with it. I might decide to get it looked at when I come to sell the car if the noise persists.
