Last night my water pump and fan belt failed and also the coolant boiled away, anyone know how much it will cost to repair on a 1.3 multijet?
Really depends on where you get it done and whether you use a genuine fiat spare parts or after market parts..genuine pump on eper is telling me £56.51p..
The OEM part really is not expensive then. Have paid more than double that for water pumps for other cars.
I'd advise fitting only OEM for these type of parts as pattern pumps tend not to be made as well IME.
Blimey same pump from shop4 is £34..66p.. plus vat and carriage..new belt will be needed as well..very lucky this engine works from auxiliary belt and not cam belt other wise CABOOOOOM..
Dont forget the formum discount when ordered from shop4..thought I had better mention that one..
Doesn't the dismal have a timing chain rather than a cam belt?
Doesn't the dismal have a timing chain rather than a cam belt?
but if it does have chain drive then it wouldn't affect the belt breaking cos it doesn't have one.. Or pump self destroying its self as you rightly intimated....i am now ready to be beaten with your sally rod..
Are you sure it's the water pump that's failed and not just the belt?
Sorry to hear about that. I'm curious to know age & mileage. Fingers crossed for you that the engine hasn't been cooked.
The car is 5 yrs old and done 40,000 miles.
I'm just wondering, how often did you have the coolant changed?
The corrosion protection additives in the coolant do deteriorate with time. I'd suggest changing the coolant every second year, regardless of mileage. Cheap if you do it yourself (it's not hard), and not expensive if you go to a decent independent garage.
The water pumps are crap, same with GP, bravo, punto etc nothing to do with changing coolant.
