hit a cat the other day, damn thing ran straight out infront of me anyway i had a look under my car for any fur and i noticed the sump has a dirty bash in it and it is rusting, no leaks yet but best to get a new sump before it does

how much they cost? imagine i could order one from parts dept

btw for the cat loves,iam one, i had a spare blanket in the boot and wrapped the cat up in it and took it to its owners address, they werent happy but still thankful

Don't go to the expense of replacing the sump.
Just take off any loose rust and paint with black Hammerite or Smoothrite if you are really worried. However, the sump on most Pandas will have some surface rust after only a few miles.
Was the poor old cat dead? Must have been a shock when you turned up with it at the owner's House.

yea it was dead, felt so bad about it cos ive got 2 cats of my own.

the road i hit it on there is some bushes right next to the road and it ran out of the bushes about a meter infront of me when i was doing around 30, it was pretty flat

on the plus side though, i let them keep the blanket

We have a cat too, but I'd rather he got squashed that some child - many who run out in front of cars where I live.

I have had a couple of kids run out in front of me too...

I keep my toddler on a lead when I'm out with him walking and the wee one in the pram. I like to be sure that he can't suddenly run off... And the lead isn't as bad as it sounds...

I hope you demanded compensation for the damage that their walking furball had caused. OK, it came off worse, but it was its fault none the less.

If one of my cats got run over and a driver then started demanding compensation I would be straight down the cop shop.

Its one of those things, its not the owners fault nor is it the OPs fault. I've lost a cat myself due to him being run over. It was one of the most horrible things I have ever seen. Thankfully all the roads near me are now 20 zones which has really helped. Do 30mph here and you will need new springs and shock asborbers that is if the speed bumps don't cause the strut go to straight through the top mount :slayer:

unfortunately / fortunately depending on which side of the fence you sit on you can not claim for damage caused by a cat as its classed as wild / feral where as a dog on the other hand you can...... welcome to Uk law at its best....



as per the rusty sump its unlikely the cats 9 lives caused the damage to the sump if its rusting at the "impact" site clean it up and a coat of high temp paint

same here, the kids seeing their cat dead was horrible but unfortunally a part of life

i wouldnt want my cat to be left dead in the road for other cars to run over so just doin what id want somone to do, it was gross though flat in the middle

the cat didnt do the damage, sump has a decent dent and abit of rust in the dent, cat just alerted me to the problem

painted over the rust now, well i used that rust converter stuff first

Good work with taking the cat home, not sure what I would have done. May have depending on it being are dark rainy evening or a bright sunny afternoon.

Just keeping the sump painted with some hammerite rust proofer has worked on all ours so far.
