Got round to swapping the factory fitted Blaupunkt radio/CD that came with my new 1.1 Active Eco tonight. Straightforward swap for the most part, but I did notice that the standard unit was connected with ISO connectors as well as a yellow, green and purple loom.

Stereo appears to work fine without that connected, just wondering what that block of cables was for? Have I missed something crucial??!?

Cheers!

Good stuff, thanks. I just have to ask though, if there's no point to it, what was it doing wired into the factory fit stereo in the first place?!?

Now just need to swap the red and yellow wires around, as I discovered this morning that it wasn't holding the settings when I leave the car.

Cheers!

I believe for anti theft security the standard stereo will only work if its known to the body computer so the wires are required for this but not needed for a non-Fiat headunit.

:yeahthat:

But it also does things like input a speed pulse for auto volumn control etc if the HU supports it, also does the dimming of the unit at night etc.

Thanks for all the replies - I don't know whether the stereo I've removed had speed / volume auto adjustment as the manual I got with the car (new from a dealer!) was in German.....

Swapped round cables last night and now all well. Just in case anyone else searches for this, the connections were standard ISO ones, with the red and yellow cables wired as red>red and yellow>yellow. No adaptors or additional faceplates needed, just removed the stereo with a cut-up coat hanger bent in two, removed the metal case and replaced with new stereo and case. As easy as it should be really! (Certainly easier than swapping in the Multipla which required bits of the dash being disassembled!!!)

Replaced the stock radio in my Fiat Active with a new stereo a while back and I did query Fiat about the extra wires.

(I'm assuming you are on about the coloured ISO connectors.)
Basically they are pre-installed wiring looms that can be used if you had any extras installed (Phone connection, Subwoofer, Steering wheel controls, CD Changer/Aux input, etc etc...

I just connected them all into the stereo
