I feel something expensive coming on..... I've had no problems at all with the gearbox on my 2005 Panda Eleganza until a couple of weeks ago. To begin with very occasionaly when I started the car the gearbox indicator would go straight from neutral into first and not change into reverse when I moved the lever. Then the same happened the other way - sometimes it would not change from reverse into first. This is becoming more frequent and can only be dealt with by turning off and startig again. Also it sometimes flashes up that manual option is not available ( which it isn't when this happens) Any idea what this can be anyone? and any idea if it is likely to decimate my Chritmas fund? Higgle has done 39000 miles now. Thanks in anticipation.....

Bumping! Surely one of you techie people must have an idea? It is doing the same still - sometimes OK sometimes not. Seems to be less of a problem if restarting soon after a longish journey, but quite unpredictable otherwise. Just know if I venture anywhere near a Fiat dealer until I've got a bit of an idea myself it is going to be expensive and frustrating.

I think unless your xmas funds are very big, you should be prepared to spend half of it away :)

What is wrong is you have a leaky actuator. Around £1000 to fix at a Fiat dealer because it must be replaced together with the gearbox pump (The one you hear each time you open your driver door)

In regard to the part where it said Manual Option Not Available, is there a moment when it happens? Usually that is a sure sign that the selector lever itself is going, meaning there is some corrosion at the sensors. No clue how much this is to fix.

Thank you for being the bearer of the news - pity it is bad. Oh well, just hoping there is a bit of loose change down the back of the sofa.

Yes, it was expensive - I'd booked it in for the brake recall thing with a loan car in a couple of weeks but gearbox light came on this morning, huge leak, will cost £1300 to fix, no option. Sad to say I won't be buying another dualogic now, which is a shame because it is so lovely to use.

Try writing a letter to Fiat customer care. They may cover some of the cost out of good will. Failing that, contact consumer direct, as for something like that to fail after 4.5 years, 39k, its questionable as to it origionally being 'fit for purpose' ;)
