Hi all, I recently purchased a new alloy wheel and tyre for my 100hp from my local Fiat dealer and I've just noticed they've used a tap on rim weight instead of a stick on weight. Do you think this a mistake? I'm asking because the rim weight may have scratched the alloy when it was tapped on. All four wheels on my car have stick on weights. Any thoughts anyone?

It's not a bodge, but it's a outdated way of doing it. The only reason being aesthetics, but seeing as it's on the inside of the rim, I wouldn't worry about it. Nobody is going to see it are they?

I agree with TDQ. Sure it's not perfect and yes it will slightly scratch the rim but are you really going to have the car for long enough for this to become an issue and is it going to be any worse than when you get stonechips on the rim.

I wirebrushed and painted some Punto steelies recently as winter wheels for my 500 and tbh some of the places with the wheel weights clamped onto the rims were better than where there wasn't a weight.

I would take it back.

Yeah, I will be taking it back. I ordered a brand new unmarked wheel and that's what I expect to get. These wheels aren't cheap at 218.80 inc VAT each, so why they would just bash on a rim weight when they should of used stick on weights is beyond me. I'll ask them to take the rim weight off and if it's scratched the rim then it'll either have to be an discount or a new wheel. Anyway.....thanks for all your replies, I'll let you guys know how I get on.
