Hello,
first post on the forum!!!

I am trying to replace a broken alternator on my FIAT Panda 1.2 eleganza on a 53 plate

I have removed the OSF wheel and the plastic cover exposing the belt and alternator. However, after removing the two (couldnt find any more) bolts i still can't remove the alternator:confused:. I assume that the tension on the belt is keeping the alternator in place.

can anyone advise on the removal and refitting proceedure. I have a replacement on order from FIAT due to arrive in 3 days so need to get hte old one off as they want the old one back or ther is an extra charge!

any help would be greatly appreciated

why cant things be as easy as they were on my old UNO. i could completely dissmantle and rebuild the engine in 1 day! :bang:

Just looked at my CD manual and there appears to be 3 bolts in total that hold the alternator. I've had alternators off other cars I've owned, sometimes they are just a tight fit between the castings/engine block mountings, you sure this is just not the case?

Thanks for reply!

I found two bolts underneath the alternator and one on the side that seems to hold another bracket on that the tensioner is held on with.

Where are the 3 bolt located accoring to the CD?

i assume that i need to somehow remove the tension on belt before the alternator will come away. Any ideas how to slacken the tesnion?

I found a picture on the internet of the tensioner but cant seem to figure how to "slacken" it.

I loved the alternator on my D reg UNO. two bolts visible from the front and hand tensioned by tightening hte bottom bolt EASY!!!!

Thank you again for taking the time to reply

I would say that one is near the top, one is at the bottom and the third is in the 3 o'clock position. The CD manual is not that great to be honest, unless it's just me not being able to find the info.:D

Just had a look in an old Haynes manual I have for the Cinquento, the bolt in the 3 o'clock position is the adjustment, long slot so you can move the alternator back & forth for belt tension.

I'm guessing, by that picture that the Panda's got auto adjust tension, those pulleys look similar to the one on my Alfa, if so there maybe another bolt head around that area so you can take the pressure off to be able to remove the belt. Or maybe there is a slot/notch that you would put a pry bar in??

I have a sneaking suspicion that the small black tab on the tensioner above is to release an eccentric camm insise teh gold coloured bit on the tensioner above. Ill give it a go tonight and keep you posted.
