Hi
Just got my panda today :D
I bet this question has been asked loads before but i couldnt find a definate answer when searching, so an answer or link to another post would be great

I want to connect my mp3 player (not ipod) to my blankput stereo, basically just an Aux in. Can this be done and how?

thanks

bugger, is that the only way? as i have had one of them before and wasnt impressed. Iv heard a lot of bad things from other people too

I've just done it the way described in the link in the above post. It really is very easy, the hardest part was removing the metal conectors from the blue plug on the lead, but once that's done it really is a 5min job:)

To save you reading it all....I cut n pasted it into one easy to follow guide....

Firstly make sure you've got the MP3 stereo (169 C1V2 MP3)

Then:

Buy one of these:

http://www.bluespot.co.uk/stock/auxin.asp

Then do this:

Removing the unit is simple - Either a cheap set of keys from Halfrauds, or a modded coathanger to depress the retaining pins on either side...A gentle pull, and out it comes...

You're left with a hole like this, in your dash...

Now this is where the problem becomes apparent - The multi coloured connector block occupies all available slots on the back of the head unit...So there's no place to plug the nice new lead in...

This might have been obvious to some, but as I'd never removed the stereo before, I wasn't sure if there would be a 'spare' port for the multichanger etc...There isn't...:p

Anyway, there's only one wire into the yellow block, but I'm not 100% sure what it's for, so just disconnecting it to insert my new lead wasn't an option...So I had no alternative other than to (carefully) butcher the new lead to free the wires...

This done, push them home into the relevant holes in the existing yellow connector (the three outermost ones on the left of the diagram marked AF L, AF R, and AF Earth)

THICK Black one is the EARTH and goes in the middle hole of the 3 holes

THIN Black & THIN Red are LEFT / RIGHT and go in top / bottom holes....

DON'T BUST THE METAL CLIPS!!!! THEY ARE FRAGILE!!!!

Now, I wanted to route the lead into my glovebox...Problem number two - There's no blanking plate to remove for the lead (thought there might have been one for fitting the official Fiat iPod lead). This would mean drilling a substantial hole for the lead...Around the area all the wiring for the passenger airbag is situated...

I've no desire to run the risk of setting it off in my face, or disabling it, so decided not to bother...Instead, I fed it down behind the head unit, and to the left...It comes out to the left of the centre console, and it's easy enough to tuck it behind, so that only what you need is visible around the cup holder area...

(Might revisit this later, but was in a rush, so no time right now...)

Leads all reconnected, head unit back into the slot, and it's good to go...iPod connects via the 3.5mm jack, and is distortion / hum free...Faaaaar better than any FM Transmitter I've owned...(y)

(Instructions mainly from Fluoxetine with additional bits from erictheboy & me.... :D)

cheers for that!
unfortunatly i already spent ages reading through that post and found your guide
very useful!

done it, dead chuffed!(y)

there is a hole in the top of the glove box which you should be able to thread it through. i went for the cupholder option though so i can charge my mp3 player with the cig lighter at the same time

I have read this guide

ttp://www.fiatforum.com/panda/208825-mp3-player-connection.html

When its mentioned you have to 'butcher' the cable please can I have some clarity on how you do this?

Do you remove the cables from the blue ISO connector on the BlueSpot Aux Lead and strip the wires down and place spade connectors on the end of the wires?

Or is it a simple process of removing the wires from the Blue ISO connector and pushing them into the yellow ISO?

Ours 100hp also has a Factory fit sub in it....Don't know where this runs to on the back of the head unit...

If anyone can supply pictures on how you make up the new cable it would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

ZenBass

The idea is to try and get the wires, complete with their tiny little spades, out of the blue plastic plug in one piece....Not easy as I found out but even I managed 2 out of 3.... :D

If not, you can cut the wires and add new spades, but they are very very fine, so make sure you're got the right ones!

Hello all (this is my first post...)

Just wanted to say thanks for the guide for this trick - I did it myself and it really does work!

ThisBitterPill's instructions are spot on, although you don't actually need to disconnect the whole head unit from the wiring plugs.

I bought a slightly different cable from Radioworld, only £5.99 with free P&P (not allowed to post the URL yet but search on Google, they're the second on the list, then search their website for 'Blaupunkt aux'). Took a bit of time to work out the different leads and where they go, but made it in the end. I took a pic in case it helps anyone else.

The fiddly bit is, as mentioned, dissecting the blue plug to release the individual wires. Blunted a Stanley knife blade doing that! Also took me a bit of time to actually remove the head unit, but only because as a cheapskate Yorkshireman I used coathanger wire rather than a proper tool :)

The product from Radioworld seems to have a shorter cable than the Bluestar one, but it just fits nicely down the back of the left hand side of the centre console to come out by the cup holders.

So all in all, highly recommend this if you have the suitable head unit. Coupled with the ideal stereo settings suggested in other threads, I can get all my favourite tunes instantly and they sound great!

Thanks again.

James

After owning my Panda for over a year now, I've finally had enough, and need to do this myself.

Getting the cable, taking out the head unit and finding everything seems fine. The only part that concerns me is getting the wires and their spades out of the purchased cable and connecting them properly to the head unit.

If I'm careful enough with the cable and get the spades out, should it just plug straight into the connector to the head unit?

Is there a knack to getting the spades out? What do I do if I mess it up?

Need it explained in dumb terms since I want to be sure before I start butchering things!

:)

I just gradually trimmed away the housing until I could release the spades....

But go careful....I started carefully and got impatient....That's why I ended up breaking one...

One of those ' repent at leisure' things eh?

I'll order the cable and give it a crack. Thanks for the advice!

You should be able to get the extra leads / wires from Maplins if your going to use the AUX imput. My Ipod connection uses a USB port at the back of the Headunit.
