Anyone know how easy/expensive it might be to change to the updated brake servo. The brakes are the only part of the car I really hate. In slow moving traffic there's a kind of soft bit to start with and then it goes to really harsh if you know what I mean . I find myself constantly braking too much or not enough. I would almost consider it dangerous. As Fiat have seen fit to modify it ( and often they just leave things ) I might try a warranty claim.

I reckon the servo is probably no different. I think there is just a bit of extra pedal travel on the later cars (I have a 58 plate) so it doesn't take you by surprise.

I agree though that on the earlier cars and definately on my old horrible MJ the brakes were just stupid in them being completely over-servoed.

This is still a slight problem on the later 100hp but much less of an issue, though you'd need to check part numbers between the early and late cars to find if they did actually change the servo because that might not actually be the case.

I can't see them changing it under warranty given nothing is faulty.

Actually it almost seems that there is too much pedal travel, with the first inch or so not doing much - so you press harder and then wham your almost going through the window, because you feel you are not stopping quick enough. It is just so difficult to judge how much pressure to apply. The brakes on my 500 are so much better.

Interestingly I had a 500 1.4 for a day and the brakes on that were way worse than my 100hp. They were stupidly over-servoed. No feel at all.

My 500 is the 1.2 which although a little slower of course, is, according to many dealers I have spoken considered to be a much better drive all round than the 1.4 . I've always managed to get used to any car in the past ( well over 25 different cars) including non servoed fast cars ( Simca Rallye 2 ) but the 100hp is the odd one out. The brakes are mental.

If you're struggling that much then maybe there is a fault with them.... :D

I can't believe that nothing's been changed - the difference between an 08 and a 58 is just too much.

That's very possible. I've never had any issues with my 57 or the demo '07 car which I test drove both have the old-style servo (if there is such a thing :D) and I'm certainly no driving god :D

Isn't there a tame Fiat spares bod on the forum who can look up the part numbers and check for engineering changes?
