I have just phoned Palmers in Watford, Herts to get a quote on the first service for my OH's Panda MultiJet.
The guy said that a low mileage service was for 6000 miles and under but the Fiat Service & Warranty book says a low mileage service is below 7000 miles.
How can he say it is 6K ??

The price difference is £36.87 ( Low = £178.92 Normal = 215.79 )
Its bad enough having to pay such a large amount for what is basically a cursory check over without being ripped off for another £36.

Who is correct, the Service book or Palmers ???

My Sept 2008 Fiat service handbook refers, for the Panda, to the "low mileage annual service" applying to vehicles with an annual mileage of less than 12,000 miles, eg 6,000 miles.
Thus the 6,000 miles is just an example and not a rule. As I read it, a Panda covering 11,999 miles in a year could be eligible for the low mileage annual service.
However, the only significant difference between the types of service, on the MJ, is the decision as to whether to replace the oil and filter.
The replacement oil and filter would seem to account for the price difference of £36 between the services on offer.
Personally, whatever the mileage, I would not like to leave a modern turbodiesel engine without an oil change for more than 1 year. Low mileages often suggest a lot of stop/start motoring, which causes engine oil to deteriorate more rapidly. Engine oil also deteriorates over time regardless of whether the engine is running or not.
I would suggest that the extra £36 would be money well-spent. If the car is within warranty, it would prevent possible future disputes. If the car is outside its warranty, get the service carried out at an independent and save more than your £36.

I paid £144.50 for my second year low mileage service. Thames Fiat in Slough - did it while I waited. They didn't ask what miles I had done in past year, I just said 'not many can i have a low mileage service please'.
