Key Immobiliser Problems

Have done a search and not found anything Panda specific on this.

Has anyone had the immobiliser light come on before whilst driving? The GF called yesterday to say it had come on, on the way to work and on the way home. Not straight away though and didnt show after restarting the engine.

Last night it was fine when she went out but this morning the car stuttered at a junction and then stopped about 20metres later. No lights on the dashboard this time though.

(obviously last night when I spoke to her she couldnt find the spare key and has now not taken her phone with today, but that is a whole other arguement to be saved for the phone tonight)

I guess this is likely to be a problem with the key as it has a chip in it? if she could find the spare then it would be an easy way to find out.

Anyone else had anything similar and had to replace something else?

Thanks

Re: Key Immobiliser Problems

Things might have changed slightly, when she said no lights on the dash board she really did mean no lights on the dash. Everything went completely blank as though the ignition was turned off. I dont think this would happen if the immobiliser had kicked in properly as it would keep the dash lit up to show the lamp.

So this might be a problem with the barrel or connections around it? the immobiliser light could be related to the same problem if the barrel picks up the code.

Never had it apart so not sure what it looks like, might be doing it over the phone with a mate at the weekend as I am in working in italy this weekend. (all the pandas seem to work out here)

Thinking of other things:
- Battery connections
- Bulkhead wiring connections
- One on the ECUs losing it marbles, I guess there is a Body controller. Would this be the cluster?

Re: Key Immobiliser Problems

Yeah, try those two black connecters on top of the engine.
just give them a firm push down.
Hopefully its that simple.

Does the radio, central locking, boot release etc work? this stuff doesnt require the engine running or the keys in.
