still mulling over... its been months...
any one got any observations on engines of 1.1 vs. 1.2?

The taxation changes mean that the MJ is not such an obvious choice any longer, as the fuel consumption is compensated for by diesel price... with the ecos both improving over the earlier cars.

I'm led to believe that the £5300 non-aircon 1.2 eco is a thing of the past (anyone found one in the last week or so?) so suddenly the 1.1 at £5100 starts to make sense, as a box on wheels. I see its 20kg lighter than the 1.2, and the 1.2 a good deal lighter than the MJ.
1.1 eco now has bodycolour bumpers and EBD.

Is it as good an engine as the 1.2?

the figs are now exactly the same...42.8/68.9/56.5 with the 1.1eco taking a second longer to 60 than the 1.2 eco's 14 secs....

i'm more interested in the qualities of the engine - i.e. is it as good as the revvy 1.2?

I haven't tried a 1.1 so cannot comment on that.

I have to admit I don't really play with the revvy side of my car, it's more like usually found in chug mode on the motorway.

thats interesting. so it chimes a little with honest john's original report on the Active that it was italianate in character...i.e. potentially it could be the more characterful engine?? (with nobody in the car, as you say...)

Another thing to think about too, 1.1 is an active spec while the 1.2 is dynamic, and there isnt much difference cost wise on a pre reg one (going by uncle arnold's pricing)

Would it be like the older 1.1 v 1.2 where the 1.2 was more economical ?

I have the older 1.2 and it's just done a tadge over 400 mile on a tank full (58 mpg) :D :D :D

Where as with the 1.1 I'm currently driving I'm getting only about 220miles per tank (only £28 to fill though)

But this is because I can confirm the below :p

The 1.1 is slightly down on torque and power, if you drive an empty car you wont notice alot of difference.

The 1.1 also likes revs better than the 1.2, it has a shorter stroke and actually has a higher redline.

I bought my 1.2 Dynamic Eco from Perry's about a week ago. It is non-air con so I assume they are still available. Phone them and ask. Excellent little car. I did 250 miles mostly motorway and felt very comfortable in it.
