Well, it looks as though my Panda project has finally begun....almost.
The Cage is ordered now, and should arrive during the first couple of weeks in Jan. And....I've only gone and advertised the interior and Airbags on E-bay. I guess, once the interior sells, there'll be no going back.

I should begin the big stripdown next weekend, and the first job will be the seam welding. Actually, the first job will be making a stand to pivot the body on for seamwelding.

Watch this space for piccies.

...pulls chair up, gets comfy.

This should make for a cracking thread. :slayer:

Don't forget pictures Nigel!

No worries. There'll be plenty of piccies. I've always wanted to do this to a brand new car:slayer::slayer: I bought my Mustang new, then stripped it to do some preventative sealing and waxoyl work...I must be insane!!

Actually, I forgot to say in the previous thread... The initial plan is to get the car caged, welded and painted, and then put back together as a standard 100hp less interior etc, with comp seats and harnesses.

Otherwise, I'll end up doing no events whatsoever in 2008.

Later in the year I'll strip it all out again, to do all the plumbing, suspension mods and tuning. In fact it's beginning to look like I'll be going with an 8valve head, as the 16v doesnt have the ability to accept solid lifters. (Unless perhaps I can find a way around it.)

sounds good mate (y) id love to do this to mine just having the bottle to start stripping it out, whats the benifits to having solid state lifters?? :slayer:

Be really good to see what benefits the weight saving will have to the standard engine set-up....(y)

Oh maybe you should start a blog so we can follow the progress! (see top of page for BLOGS link)

:D

You can run more aggresive camshaft profiles to open valves longer and/or higher and they are lighter so you can run the engine faster.

Have you seen the 16v head......it will be impossible to shim the thing up with solid lifters. Its a shame, as im sticking a 16v in my cinq, but the lifters will cause me issues:bang:

I'm toying with the idea of measuring the valve height above the cambox mounting face, and vise versa on the cambox?? Either that, get a slave cambox and mill it all away so it barely holds the cams in place, and build it up as a dummy before changing over to the good parts??

The other issue will be finding solid lifters that fit the Fiat cambox??

Remember Brooky, the Kit cars used 1368 blocks with 1242 8v heads....There must have been a reason????

I found your auction on Ebay, can't help but think you'll get more bids if you sell the seats separate as they are the main part people would be willing to bid for (hint). Seats would fit without issues in my MJ would they not? (hint hint)

What about the alloys? separate auction too? (hint hint)
;)

Congrats on the start. I'm fascinated by this and will be watching with keen interest.

cheers
J

ps: what he said about the wheels and seats

Tell you what, if the interior doesn't sell, make me an offer on the seats, and take the rest for free. (Hint)
