Had a call today from Fiat in Wrexham and they told me my car was due it's first service soon. Hmmm... i thought, i've only had it since February and it's only done 8600 miles. Then she tells me it's due once a year, or every 12k which i already knew. What i didn't know is that the warranty and service schedule start from when the car is registered, and as my Panda was pre-registered a whole 2 months before i bought it, guess it means i will have to have it serviced sooner than i thought! (annoyingly before xmas!) I've got to go along with it too as i phoned Fiat UK after and they told me the warranty will be invalid if not serviced, as they go by the age of the car.

Just something to think about if you've bought a pre-reg. Also, I've seen pre-reg 08 reg cars with 8 miles on the clock, supposing you bought a 4 month old pre-reg Panda, you only do say 5000 miles in the next 8 months and before you know it, the garage is ringing you up telling you it's due a service!

They quoted me £136 which i thought was reasonable too for a first service on a Multijet, or should i shop around?

Have a look in the service book because Fiat do allow a bit of leeway in miles or time. It would be quite reasonable to take advantage of any leeway on time with your low mileage.
The cost of the service sounds pretty good especially as the fully synth 5W40 Diesel oil needed by your engine is quite expensive.
I kept taking my and my daughters' Pandas to a dealer in Newcastle (upon Tyne, not Emlyn), who have now given up the franchise, paying over £200 for servicing each time when folk on the forum were paying much less. I must have been daft. I'm going to phone around for quotes with the new car. Might even try a non-franchised 4x4 specialist who is local and highly trusted (nearest Fiat dealer is now over 10 miles from me).

Mine is a pre reg car, it had 3 or 4 miles on it, registered 5th December 2007 I picked it up start of January 2008.

My service sticker says "12000 miles or 5th December or which ever comes first"

Mine has 8600 miles now, so it got to the 12 months first. (£125.95 all in (y))

The Fiat dealer in Wrexham charged me a lot more than that for my first service.
I haven't been back there since.

but the money you saved by buying a pre-reg more than pays for a service, cant have it all ways or should I say you dont get something for nothing.

£136 is a good price.

I was wrong. The service book allows a tolerance of 1,000 miles either side of the specified mileage but no tolerance for time of servicing.

When i had my 100hp and it was time for a service i pranged it and it was in the body shop, when i spoke to the dealer they said the leway was 1000 miles or 1 month, nut this could change from dealer to dealer

1st service on my 1.2 was 6 months late [nothing to do with me though] and cost me £91.77p..second service was £168.60p and told them I didnt want the W/R oil in the engine but the 20K instead which worked out cheaper [work that one out] £24.77p for a set of spark plugs .. sheesh.. helfrauds price..£10.. wont be going back for the 3rd year now I will either get it done by a friend local or even may do it myself after seeing another thread on what you can or cant get done on a 3rd year warranty..:(
